The basic answer is that this is a completely different engine that's based around servers instead of P2P connections like the main games

Because we're talking through a server instead of directly connecting to someone else they decided they needed to have server regions
This proved extremely unpopular so they're going through the process of linking them all up for matchmaking

So...D2 is on the same basic bones of the engine but ten years of development will have some knock-on effects. Bungie removed a chunk of D2 years ago for optimization purposes and the engine has changed so much since then that they're actually unable to run those backups.
Server authentication is still largely P2P but the matchmaking middleman is very present. The server architecture of D1 and D2 is just...extremely complicated.

I think the decision to limit the artifacts, and remove the clusters, was a bad idea, but I assume there is a reason for this. Likely on the roadmap. It’s also to keep the game alive, as this is a rough patch. It’ll get better with time.

It depends on the type of player you are. @misty fiber makes the best collection videos in order to get as many free materials for draws as possible. But it can be a bit of a spoiler if you want to solve the puzzles on your own.

Gold medal doesn't mean you have characters calamity or even expanse ready tho, and 4 clusters are more valuable than 30 infusion cores and 1 photo imo since you can only get them from calamity and the monthly shop offer
