...maybe technically true, but we don't have full freedom. We can not pitch, yaw, or do vertical rotation. So we don't have the freedom to do many things that other crafting games have to make slopes or angles.

Enshrouded looks like the best contender and it looks great, but from what I’ve seen, Windrose seems to have the best texture/depth to its building graphics

Maybe it’s better in-game, but even Enshrouded, the build pieces seem very flat and blocky

Its not. Its stiff. Your char feels heavy. You either float or swing. Forward momentum works against you...

Enshrouded system is frustrating because you ahve to individually craft the building textures. You end up with boxes full of dark brick 1, dark brick 2, wood panel 4, etc. Yeah, you unlock more as you progress but if you want to do any serious building you need a degree in Excel to plan / execute. The building itself is great, but getting there a pain.

One of Windrose's great strengths is the 0 friction way you can just build stuff. Yeah, you need to go get stone but you just load it into a container and can build anywhere across your bonfire radius. You don't need a specific container (Enshrouded) or to carry it with you (Valheim).

The funny thing is, once you learn a pattern, you can throw down a fire inside or next to most of the buildings in the game, and steal the entire thing to make bricks for your own house.
(And a few of the swamp puzzles can be bypassed by simply stealing the locked door or cutting through the wall...)

If u like Enshrouded an Valheim there’s a game very similar called RuneScape DragonWilds

Windrose is one of the best builders I've played. For sure, Enshrouded and Valheim have to be in that conversation.

But there are also ones like Medieval Dynasty which allow you to build a functioning settlement; part of me hopes that some of the devs are also looking at games like this for inspiration or influence.

It’s pretty decent. The combat is awful though. ANY time you get hit, the animations lock for like .5 seconds. I don’t mean locked as in you can dodge away, I mean locked 🔒. Most of the time, you’re fighting 3+ mobs and you dying isn’t really in your control unless you over prepare for what would normally be a simple fight.

Yeah.. can’t tell you how many times I go to smack some mobs just to die from uncontrollable elements and a lack of counterplay. You basically HAVE to rune enchant your weapon to fight normal mobs.

Some people said the shell doesn't go very deep in the water, so diving down and under is a viable way of sneaking in there.
Other people have screen shots of walking on 'thin air' above the undead zone, saying the top is perfectly flat. And buildable on. So you have floating bonfires and platforms...

Well, the way Minecraft works, is that after installing another mod that will make new things pop up, you simply «expanded» the map by exploring further, procedurally generating more map. I’d hope something similar could be done here.

What talent tree skills are ppl running to survive the longest in Swampland on normal/hard setting? When I'm Swampland resource farming, I don't want to consume food and elixirs. I just want to run in, mindlessly slash the enemies in my way down and get the resources.

Focus on dodging, kite groups of 2-3, get a wide swing that staggers them for 2 hits, dodge away, build up that plague ability and unleash it after one normal hit to stagger

1. I've reached max level and still have some unfinished points of interest. Will I "waste" XP if I complete these before Ashlands comes out and increases the max level? As far as I know, I can't just farm XP in another world, since the POIs will already be completed.

2. I've disassembled the Plague Pistol because I thought I could simply craft one if I want to use it. But I didn't unlock the blueprint. Is this a bug? How am I supposed the get the pistol again, if the gear chests don't refill?

1. Will I "waste" XP?
   No definitive way to say, but based on how the Demo worked, it seems all XP is stored to the Character and then the level is calculated based on it - so when the Lvl Cap was raised in the Demo via mods, all "extra" XP was automatically applied.
2. Plague Pistol can't be crafted?
   Unfortunately this is a bug, the dev's have acknowledged it in #1493348541177794601 - only way to reattain is by getting it from someone/new character or from one of those "this world has everything" saves

The problem with PvP is that gear and skills would need to be balanced to ensure even more fairness than for PvE.
V Rising, for example, suffered because of this, since skills were nerfed for PvP reasons and became pretty much useless in PvE.

If there are ever dedicated PvP servers, any big balancing changes that are made specifically for PvP reasons should only apply to those servers.

I am not even someone that would participate in PvP but seeing people be hostile to anyone asking for it and making the dumbest possible excuses is cringe and annoying.
First of all devs said they are not opposed to PvP and will take a look at it after 1.0. No the game doesn't have to be balanced for PvP if it is added at some point, they can create a new mode where you choose between few presents of armors and weapons created for the new mode with simplified talent trees. Your PvE experience doesn't have to suffer just because they choose to do something to satisfy the people who already like and bought their game.
Sitting here and being hostile to anyone that asks for PvP is just as bad as someone spamming for PvP the entire day. You are not helping anyone and you are just being annoying to anyone with a brain.

Windrose was never originally promoted as a game that included PvP. If PvP is added in the future, the idea is for it to be an optional server setting, allowing players to choose between a PvP world or a PvE-focused experience.

At the moment, however, PvP is not the main priority. Right now, the team is focused on strengthening the core experience of the game, which has always been PvE. Their main goals are improving overall gameplay, making sure everything runs smoothly, and ensuring players are having a great time. Even on Dedicated servers.

In short: PvP is not off the table, but for now the focus remains on delivering the best possible core Windrose experience.

I'm taking my time with the game. I defeated boss 2 last week and am only focused on gathering materials to build a frigate and upgrading everything to level 15. Then I can concentrate on the remaining quests

Each new world is unique, so the placement is different. There is a third party site or two you can throw your world save into and it'll output a map though. I forgor the names of them though.

The faction islands are usually around Tortuga anyway, and instead of the red Blackbeard waters, they'll have the faction color waters on the map on approach. So even without seeing the island, if you're in Bretheren waters, you know you're getting close to the Bretheren base.
