Well the difference is that biomes will work with a render distance. So they will balance the game for that. For example people have already reported of you put too much lighting in your base it can massive impact performance. So extending the range of the bonfire to add more stuff with in your rendering range will significantly impact your performance.

Sure, bonfire range affects performance, but that’s nothing compared to a whole region full of lava, ash particles, and heat shaders. If the engine struggles with torches, imagine what a volcanic biome will do. The camps are player controlled… not the biome.

The swamps already tank performance because of fog, water, and transparency. A volcanic region adds lava shaders, heat distortion, ash particles, and dynamic lighting on top of that. It’s not the same scale of load.

I personally hate PVP games where its forced on you, but i would find it fine if PVP was a server setting, so its either fully on or fully off, and was in BIG BOLD VISIBLE indicator when joining a server. If you want to talk efficiency, the best way without modding is to just have multiple worlds with fast travels already setup everywhere there's mines or other respawnable loot you want to farm, and you just switch between your various worlds.

i play offline, no desync errors here. everyone with wierd loading issues seems to be because they play online.

my take is that... its saving your character and world state on both ends, but as a result its causing wierd desync issues that cause infinite loading. maybe there is a hash in the background that keeps world spawn items consistent. and when those hashes differ its doing a load loop or something

Ok I have been playing this game for awhile, did a lot fighting and hunting and gathering and crafting and building and I just got the Ketch and been sailing it around and sunk another ship on the Quest line..

I'm level 8 and I've killed the first boss - and lost count of how many Blackbeard ships I've sunk because I've yet to see a cluster of them I could resist going after. 😄
