For boarding it's best to use a 2-hander weapon for the extra reach to hit through your crew (use them as a meat shield)
I usually just shoot them from my own ship to avoid accidents
Also unless they have a golden chest on top of them you can just sink them with ur cannons

i dont think get gud is even a matter of skill in this game. this entire game is sidequests, and items, and knowing how to spend your talent points. everything is knowledge based, more than skill based. this is the basis of a level based/gear based combat system

1. Always have a combat and non combat repair kit on
2. Use the hull where damage doesn't stop repair kits running
3. In fights with many ships, treat half hull as 25% or less hull and repair accordingly. The Blackbeard Brig is a bit of a glass canon
