I think the industry is in a state of waiting for a new technological jump that allows more, but I think it's gonna happen in the next 5 years: a shift in the way games are made and marketed, to move away from the disposable games and make them link into each other instead. They had the idea with "games as a service," but didn't do it right to monetize correctly or make meaningful updates during the so-called live service.
Everyone makes fun of Star Citizen, but them making a story mode as a separate box price that ties into their PU for another box price is how I see the future of gaming going, especially with the tech they are building for it. However, they could patent a bunch of stuff and lock the entire industry down from innovation or progression, like they did with the Nemesis system.

I loved the demo, in its small bubble of a vertical slice. I'm not sure what is gonna keep people playing to finish the game yet though. Will it be story? Will it be a sandbox of open exploration? A bit of both probably, but the world they have now wouldn't make me want to explore more if it's too samey when they expand out, or just a procedural thing with different quest points.

The only QoL from an accessibility standpoint Windrose needs is to not have to spam click to chop trees/mine.
Valheim literally had this same issue on its EA and switched to a hold to mine/chop for resource gathering.

Theres going to be disappointed people either way.
If it shadow drops, people are going to think its half baked and unfinished (Its EA what do you expect)
If the release date is announced, some people will be angry/disappointed its NOT a shadow drop.
If the release date isnt announced, people will be very angry about being teased and hyped again with nothing concrete to look forward to.
The devs have said this announcement will leave people pretty happy so we're preparing for the worst but hoping for the most ideal outcome
