They got remade
Hey hey! Weāve spruced up the server a bit to get ready for the upcoming Steam playtest. Everything should be running smoothly, but if anything feels off, just give me a shout. Big news coming soon! š
You should post those pics/the announcement that you guys posted on reddit the other day in this discord as well šš
For sure, coming right up!
Yarrr
How come this is f2p?
Yeah what's the monetization looking like š¤
Was this always marketed as an MMO? I didn't get that impression from the original pitch or play test, unless I somehow missed it. It felt like this was originally pitched as "Valheim but pirates."
Heyo
Hey there!
Can't wait to be able to sail the sea's next week / whenever playtests open and I'm free
Different cosmetics for different empires/factions that the players are connected to , like architecture , outfits , flags , maybe emblems that can be mounted on ships or buildings would be a great way for monetization while keeping the game open for everyone and the gameplay balanced.
Hype indeed!
As for PvP, hereās an excerpt from a Steam Discussions question we received this morning about PvP:
We aim to be flexible and make PvP optional, allowing players to choose how they engage with combat.
If you prefer a PvE experience, youāll have your own world in story mode, where you fully control your progress, equipment, and buildings. We understand how frustrating it can be to lose everything due to PvP encounters, so this ensures a safe space for long-term progression.
For those who enjoy PvP, there will be optional PvP zonesāboth on land and at sea. These areas are designed to create high-stakes encounters, whether through ship battles, territory conflicts, or open skirmishes.
Weāre still fine-tuning the balance between PvE and PvP locations, especially regarding base-building and progression mechanics. Our goal is to ensure that:
- PvE players can build, explore, and progress without the risk of constant disruption.
- PvP players have structured, rewarding ways to engage in large-scale battles and raids.
This approach ensures that players can protect their progress if they choose, while those seeking intense PvP action will have dedicated spaces to test their skills.
Next playtestāSoonā¢!
sounds great, always covering both sounds good! as long as we can all enjoy that content consistently we will all be happy
Honest question, what are the chances of getting playtest access as of now?

Can't wait to check it out, congrats on the progress thus farš
finally new survival pirate game
what we looking at in terms of CCU per server?
Hello
Hello there
Hey there and welcome aboard!
Hey there!
Honest answerāas of now, weāre still gathering applications for the playtest while working on updates and polishing the game build. Once we feel itās ready, weāll start approving requests.
That said, keep in mind that Steam Playtest selects players randomly, so thereās always an element of chance involved!
Depends on what you mean by 'server.'
If you're referring to your world (your PvE co-op story mode zone), it supports up to 4 players. For larger PvP and social hub zones - we're still figuring that out!
Definitely asking for the pvp servers
yea, pvp servers, the more the better (pop wise)
Yup, PvP is planned to be a core part of the game alongside PvE.
That said, it's completely optional. Our goal is to strike a balance where PvE players can build, explore, and progress without constant disruption, while PvP players have structured, rewarding ways to engage in large-scale battles and raids.
a larger scale sea of thieves would be crazy
Rip thereās PvE zones
Thatās unachievable with 4 devs
Wish it was a full pvp servers. Leave the PvErs in story mode!
Good luck, maybe Iāll be back when this is an actual pvp game. Donāt need PvE only players taking up server slots š¤¦š»āāļø
How many people are working on this game?
do we know how many players on one server?
Are the players who were part of the first round of testing guaranteed access for the upcoming testing?
This aint an airport why you announcing your departure
Awfully reminiscent of Atlas this game! So I hope it will work out because even though Atlas was technically weak it had great gameplay
Atlas was an amazing experience when it hit its peak (albeit still relatively low) player base
I strive to find that experience again
when cbt strat ??
If we want to bring everything we dream about in this game to lifeādefinitely not enough! š
But for now, weāre making it work with around 50 team members, plus additional outsourcing support.
Will there be any kind of exclusive cosmetics for people who were here for the playtesting?
Actually on that note how big will cosmetics be? if present at all?
We're still finalizing the exact player capacity per server.
For PvE co-op story mode, each world is private and supports up to four players, ensuring a controlled experience where you manage progress, equipment, and buildings.
For larger PvP and social hub zones, the player count will be higher, but weāre still determining the final numbers. These areas are designed for faction-based activities, raiding, and global events, offering structured multiplayer engagement beyond small crews.
Weāll share more details as we refine the system!
Yup! Those who have playtested before will receive keys as soon as playtesting is about to begināthat's the current plan.
May you succeed! Currently there are few games on the market in the climate of pirates so you can fill this gap.
@torpid dirge
I would like to ask which economic model will work for a game.
Atlas had some really ambitious ideas, and while it faced technical struggles, its gameplay definitely left an impression.
Weāre aiming to deliver a strong mix of survival, exploration, and large-scale adventuresāfingers crossed, with all the support, we can make it happen!
Hey @torpid dirge , may you check the private message I sent you when you have a chance?
hey @torpid dirge Which economic model will you use?
Totally random but would yāall be interested in hiring interns for the upcoming summer,Iām a junior in college and Iām desperately trying to find something lmao
No such plans for this playtest, sorry! Right now, all our efforts are focused on core gameplay. But Iām pretty sure we wonāt leave anyone empty-handed in the long run. š
Understandable, yippee
@torpid dirge I am a content creator, do you have anything to offer? Or any plans?
If you recall the previous playtest, there was a bare-bones character editor available in experimental mode. This time, it will feature a greater variety of customization optionsātattoos, haircuts, beards, and more. Itās still early, but the system is shaping up to be more structured and fun to experiment with.
As for cosmetics in the long run, itās tough to say just yet, but theyāll definitely be a significant part of the game.
You mean buy-to-play, subscription-based, or free-to-play? As of now, the plan is free-to-play.
That said, itās still too early to lock in a final modelāour main focus is on developing core gameplay. However, given the customization, vanity, and convenience options we have in mind, F2P seems like the best fit.
I also want to emphasize that weāre committed to long-term support and updates, introducing new story arcs with various bosses, biomes, and narratives. Ensuring the game grows and evolves over time requires ongoing resources, and weāre exploring sustainable ways to make that happen while keeping the experience engaging for everyone.
Hope that answers your question!
Sure thing! Uno momento
That depends on what you're looking for! If you get a chance, drop me a DM with the details, and I'll get back to you as soon as I can!
I'm sorry, but not at the moment. Right now, all we have is our humble content/press kit, and thatās it.
That said, if our game truly inspires you, weād love to collaborate in the future. There will definitely be more opportunities as development progresses!
I remember the exceptionally brutal combat being a thing several of us brought up during the last play test. Has the dev team relooked at combat since then? If so, what can we expect?
Yup, yup. The Israel Hands' 3D model have been updatedāso now, getting knocked around has never looked so visually satisfying!
Jokes aside, we've made several revisions to the combat system to make it feel more impactful and responsive. The difficulty should also be adjusted accordingly, though as always, balance is one of the last things to be fine-tuned, usually happening closer to when the build is prepped for playtesting.
By the way, who would be the right person to discuss this with when the time comes?
Just discovered your steam page. Game looks awesome! š
Thank you! We hope it looks just as good as it plays!
Game looks promising, I was informed about this game today. I've signed up for the cbt and look forward to when it happens. We (my group) do like some ships and survival gameplay. I do have two question atm that pops into the little peebrain of mine.
I noticed above you stated that pve/storymode is set for up to 4 players. Why '4' was picked as the number instead of something larger like 6 or 8, given that there are several groups now that are more commonly those numbers of friends/family that play larger scale games such as these together?
Second question being, in pvp mode while you haven't determined the number of players yet, is it open pvp, team deathmatch pvp, or pvp survivalish servers where players/groups make bases, have their ships, and try to survive from other players, raiding, etc?
What engine is this built on?
Youtube randomly showed me the trailer. Looks awesome. Instantly added to wishlist and requested access.
Actually, Iām not entirely sure about the 4-player limitāIāll check with the team. My best guess is that it follows the classic co-op structure seen in many survival and adventure games. Four players often strike a good balance between teamwork and coordination without becoming too chaotic, ensuring everyone has a meaningful role. That said, I understand the appeal of larger group sizes, so Iāll bring it up!
As for PvP modes, we donāt have a concrete answer yet. In the last playtest, we had a small sea zone where players could battle each other on ships, as well as a small island for hand-to-hand combat. How PvP will evolve in future updates is still under discussionāit could expand onto the global map or be contained within designated areas.
What I can say for sure is that PvE mode will remain untouchedāplayers wonāt lose progress, their world will remain intact, and theyāll be free to build, explore, and progress at their own pace without PvP interference.
Unreal Engine 5.
Thank you for your trust! We truly appreciate it ā¤ļø
Thank you for the quick response, I know it can be trying sometimes for devs to get directly back to players. My group and I have added the game to our wishlists on steam and I know atleast 3 of us have signed up, I am sure once the others get off work they will do the same. Cheers. š
Thank you for your support! It really means a lot to us. We appreciate you and your group taking the time to wishlist and sign upāfingers crossed weāll see you in the playtest. ā¤ļø
Are invites randomly sent out rn?
Nope, invites arenāt being sent out yetāweāre currently just gathering applications. The playtest is expected to start around mid-to-late April, at best.
ŠŃŃŃ ŠøŠ½ŃŠ¾ŃŠ¼Š°ŃŠøŃ когГа ожиГаеŃŃŃ ŠøŠ³ŃŠ°?
Will the game have any trade? And will ships be created by players and can be clashed in PvE or PvP or will there be a system like in Sea of Thieves?
hey, game looks awesome from the trailer... will the characters be saved server side on a global scale if there are multiplayer social hubs, raids and stuff?
(to prevent cheating with saves etc)
Hi all! Joined here after watching the trailer. Exciting stuff! Looking forward to the playtest, I hope, I get in š
Is MMO or instance / server based like e.g. Valheim?
if you can only play co-op with 4 players how is this an mmo?
I'm ready to test when that's ready!
It's a hybrid and MMO's really have no set definition.
First graphical MMO was NWN on AOL, and that supported up to 500 people. Was it a MMO?
mmos have a definition
Is zoned games actually massively multiplayer?
WoW, Everquest, LoTR, etc., all use zones.
it needs to be minimum of 2500 players per server
this is just like ark , a multiplayer survival game
WoW, EQ, etc., use sharded servers.
no mmo
So, one server actually never even came close to 2500 players.
Trust me, I use to be like you. Then I grew up. š
So, basically, it sounds like it's all the same world, but there's instancing for the pvp stuff and large-scale interactions.
Im glad this game is covering both PvP and PvE , there is an entire audience out there who would not play a game if there is no PvP like there are people that wont play if it has no PvE.
Will Players be able to build bases in the PvP zones , that would encourage more action , maybe make some incentive for bases to be build in these zones ( PvE zones dont need incentives for players to build for obvious reasons ).
I'm so excited to play
I just have to say, saw this game today and the trailer was so well done, song selection on point
looking forward to it!
do you expect to have a release, even early access in 2025?
Will be getting that key by email or DM? Just want to know where to keep an eye for it. Looking forward to another round behind the mast!
Ahoy mates!
I hope this game can quench the thirst that Atlas left in my heart.
Trailer looks awesome! Looking forward to playing it
yeah im hoping this game is atlas but with better combat. i got addicted to great combat in non mmorpg games and its tough to go back. even some combat at the level of like an avowed would be nice
also super interested in the pvp content as pve content in games normally hover around 50-100 hours unless its a tedious grind or a AAA mmorpg. can we declare war on other guilds? how many players can a server hold, all that jazz how does the ship combat work etc
Anyone know what happens when you die in pvp? Or lose a ship battle?
im hoping a lot of the pvp servesr are clustered like the good loot is in the middle and you cross multiple pvp tiles to get there and living in pvp zones is 100% viable
"As for PvP modes, we donāt have a concrete answer yet. To everyone joining up, a piece of advice from those of us that had the privilege of doing the previous playtesting: go in open minded and maybe set the bar of expectation low. Do so knowing that these devs work hard to bring ideas forward and are really open to constructive feedback. Look at the details on a small level and the direction that suggests in terms of the effort this small dev team is willing to put in for the future state. Like for me, the realistic ocean sounds, sheer detail of the ships, and realizing how much I hate goats š was incredible. Its those little details that point to great things to come!
I think you will absolutely have a far more enjoyable time than walking in trying to compare to fully fleshed out games. Play it, find the good, notice the areas of improvement you'd recommend, and bring it forward in constructive manner and this project could br a real win!
i mean my biggest question is the game good and just lacking content or are the core systems still not there. like if the combat and ship sailing is very solid then a lack of things to do and other jank makes a ton of sense. if the combat and ship stuff isnt there yet then maybe it might not be ready for the open public just yet
like is this game close to early access feel or is it truly we are testing everything nothing is close to done see you in 2-3 years for EA type of vibes
this looks like THE game for pirate fans.
well for pve pirate fans which honestly might be easier to balance and less toxic than making it PvP
still gonna be an awesome game
possibly idk if they have the budget for high level pve content but we will see
Iām not really into the whole basebuilding RP side of things
I want to play test this so badly... looks amazing
Can't wait to record gameplay of this and test core mechanics
Pirate game without pvp is like giving a comb to a bald man lol
yeah you cant be a pirate without stealing from others lol
but honestly if they want to lean into the pve side first thats probably much safer
Or at least having the option to become a Corsair and save friendly pirates, like in One Piece xD
Honestly every pirate game that come out nowadays is PVP or online only... There can be good singleplayer/pve pirate games.
I think if they create something like we have in Once Human (specific areas or time for pvp) will be nice.
š
Seen a ad for this, and become immediately interested for odvious reasons š
yeah already see like 4 people in here i know from other games (expecting that number to grow if it has a modicum of promise)
The last pirate MMO i played was Disneys Pirates Online, so needless to say the itch be being craved for a long time.
You ever play pirates of the Burning Sea? It's a great one for both PvE and PvP, best pirate MMO out there until this comes out
Oooo i forgot about that game, yea i played it for a bit
I think i lost track of it cause it kept being switched to so many different companies
Oh they're sitting pretty solid rn, it's kinda just a nice small community, but with this play test starting soon it's gonna be a while before I get heavy into it, I just hope I can grab my outfit in this game
there would be a horde of 1000 players just from the atlas group that would easily come here if the game is even average lol
if it has base raiding & full loot.... i can expect to be messaging a few guild leaders when i have confirmation but there are defenetly concerns would always want answered before i start hyping the squads up XD (player count's, world systems, is pve segregated ect ect....)
they seem to have good animators on board from the videos they shared, but need some details will tell us more we need to know for sure if its able to accomidate a good scale
know they already have a progression system in place w ship and crafting is a great + for them IMO but def need to know a bit more
yeah right now seems like they are fleshing out the pve side of the game which makes a lot of sense. create the world finetune the combat and ship mechanics and progression systems and then when you have a fun game see if theres an easy way to add pvp to it
game looks good, cant w iat to try it out, have been men tioning it around my friends too, cant man a ship solo š
Hey hey what's up fellas
Ahoy mate!
Buddy just linked me the trailer and I was immediately on board.
Sup everyone! Gonna get back to all your questions real soon
Bambino the recruiter š«”
When does the playtest start?
Will the game have any trade?
If you mean an in-game economy, possibly, though not sureābut we havenāt focused much on this topic yet.
That said, you can already visit an early prototype of Tortuga, where you can exchange resources from your PvE runs for useful loot.
Will ships be created by players, and can they clash in PvE/PvP, or will it be more like Sea of Thieves?
Right now, weāre leaning more toward the latterāpredefined ships with (possibly) upgrades and mods.
Hey there!
will the characters be saved server side on a global scale if there are multiplayer social hubs, raids and stuff?
We're still working out the exact details, but sounds like yes, if the game features multiplayer social hubs, raids, and large-scale activities, character data will likely be saved server-side to ensure consistency across shared experiences. Though, our top priority right now is core gameplay, so take my speculations here with a grain of salt!
I guess replied to this one just above š
There will be community hosted servers? How about modding support? Game looks absolutely awesome i cant wait
Thatās actually an interesting idea. We havenāt discussed this much yet, but who knows, it could be something worth exploring.
Would love to hear what kind of PvP base-building incentives you think would work best?
If youāve seen any great implementations in other games, feel free to share! Always open to ideas.
Full release (fingers crossed) in 2026, while having multiple playtesting rounds along the way!
Most likely via email, and once we start sending them out, weāll notify everyone here as well.
If you donāt receive your key, feel free to DM me later!
@wary bison @empty arrow Thanks guys! We're happy to have you on board!
The core systems are in, but thereās still plenty of work ahead.
- Ship sailing is basic for now. Mechanics like wind, navigation, and advanced handling might be added later. Feel free to ask fellow playtesters what they think!
- Combat is functional but evolving. Weāre actively improving responsiveness, hit detection, and balance.
- The gameplay loop is there, but content is still growingāmore biomes, quests, and faction interactions are in development.
Itās early, so expect bugs and unfinished features, but if you enjoy testing and sharing feedback, your input would be super helpful!
Hey, glad you enjoyed the trailer so far!
As to your questions:
- Community-hosted servers ā not sure on this one yet, sorry!
- Modding ā not confirmed at this stage, and weāre not sure if weāll have it. Right now, the focus is on getting the core game right.
I wish I could tell you more, but it is what it is right now.
Guess thatās it! If youāve got any more questions, fire away!
Next playtest when? :D
Heh, I was hoping to dodge this one š
Right now, weāre aiming for mid to late April, but it really depends on when we feel the game is ready for playtesting. If all goes well!
Is it Unreal or Unity engine?
UE5
I thought it's unity. Good job on making an UE5 game that doesn't look like all UE5 games, it's a big issue with the engine lately.
So exited to try a new pirate game! I think there is a clear need for a game taht cheks pirates+coop+pvp/pve but sadly no game has yet "clicked" for a lot of people. Hope this is the one. Good luck devs!
Aye aye, full speed ahead!
Hello,
My heart was broken with Atlas, I needed few years to search for new Pirate game/naval battle. Now I'm ready and looking for this one.
Bro Atlas was so good at the start
Yeah only at the start ^^
how long have you been working on the game ?
and how many Devs working on this game ?
Hi! Just a small message of appreciation to the developers for making this game! Looks like a dream come true to me š. I've been having an age of piracy itch that hasn't been scratched since the Sea Dogs/PoC series (I guess Black Flag was cool but too casual in its sailing mechanics).
I'd like to know about the developer of the gameļ¼
Hello all! Very excited to check out the game when possible!
I had some questions--ones that I ask with caution since a lot of MMO/games seem to shy away from/don't have much support for... is there plans to allow for:
- Character-Name name tags over discord username tags for your characters? (Perhaps First and Last names as an option? (Or at least able to be separated by _ with capitals similar to "Jack_Sparrow" as an example?)
- For your chat box system, will you guys perhaps have a /say (or local chat) that allows for text roleplay if one wishes to? I've played New World where they have a proximity chat that is the breadth/circumference of a -whole town-...** I would prefer a chat channel that at least allows for the immediate area around the player (maybe a few long meters) so it feels somewhat natural and people cant hear things from across a city/town. ** A town chat besides this/zone chat/etc are completely fine, but at least one channel that allows close-range talking in public would be well-loved.
- A transmog (vanity clothing/weapon) system?
- For** servers-**-will you have an 'auto-boot' system that tosses a player off the server and forces them to choose another if they are inactive for some period? (This is similar to what New World had done, and it left a bad taste in my mouth, primarily because it hurt communities like roleplayers' that were attempting to settle down roots and have a sense of community)--and how are servers in general going to be handled, if that is known currently? I would love to request an RP-PVE and RP-PVP tagged server if thats at all a possibility, but, honestly? If the first three of my bullets are met at some point, I think you guys may become a home for text-based roleplayers who would love to enjoy some pirate-themed roleplay. š
Hey all, Love the pirate theme and Black Flag is one of my favourite games, looking forward to seeing where this goes!
Where is the studio registered? What previous experience has the studio had with games?
Hey!
Appreciate your support and the detailed questions!
1. Name tags
Totally agree. Having a properly formatted First + Last Name adds a lot more immersion than just a generic gamertag floating above your head. Seeing names like "Israel Hands" or "Jack Sparrow" instead of "XX_Slayer99_XX" really strengthens the pirate fantasy. Weād love to support full character names. While this isnāt implemented yet, itās a small but meaningful feature that could go a long way toward immersion. Definitely something weāre considering!
2. RP / Chat System
We havenāt fully fleshed out the chat system yet, but we do see the value in local chat for RP. One possible solution (just speculation for now) would be an opt-in option that matches players into RP-friendly spacesāfor example, ensuring that RP players see other RP players in shared social hubs like Tortuga. Not set in stone yet, but itās a feasible idea that could help create a better roleplay experience.
3. A transmog (vanity clothing/weapon) system
Almost certainly, yes! We know that fashion is endgame, and weāre not skipping it.
4. Servers ā Private Worlds & Shared Spaces
That's how we currently see the server structure working:
- Personal player worlds (co-op with friends)
- Players will have their own world, where they control who can join. Friends need an invite to join your world.
- No external players unless you allow them in.
- You keep your progress and control the game pace.
(Looks like perfect for RP-friendly private sessions where you craft your own adventures!)
- Shared Multiplayer Spaces
-These are places where players can travel and meet others.
- Examples are Tortuga (social hub), expeditions, PvP events.
- Matchmaking ensures a good mix of playersāwhether for trading, faction missions, or PvP battles.
- Opt-in PvP, not random open-world ganking.
This game looks great. The survival aspect is what I was really missing in Sea of Thieves. Always wanted a pirate MMO. Excited to try this
This all sounds great! Looking forward to it. š
wait, wym opt in, I though the zone was pvp? so you have to opt in ON TOP of being in the pvp zone? or is it you mean you can opt in in the pve zone?
i have a question when the playtest while begun ?
April is what they said earlier
thanks m8
Nah, sorry, seems like I confused you. I meant the latter. You donāt have to manually opt-in for PvP if youāre already in a PvP zone. That would be way too easy to abuse.
Yeah, if Iām not mistaken, there were some PvP events in S&B where players could tank damage simply because they werenāt enrolled in the quest/task, which definitely led to abuse.
Nothing like that
yes your mate take the Pvp map and you stay out off the event you can soak the damage and heal your mate
We're excited to have you on board!
Gonna see if we can get some more people on board from the SoT community
My work here is done
Still roping people in. I'll be back!
current team/party size? and is there a cap
Currently, co-op support up to 4 players š
PvP Territory Control and Influence :
Bases in PvP zones could be tied to territory control related to a point system. Players who build in a certain PvP areas/islands could claim that small part of the island as their own but in the name of a crown ( a main faction like England , France , Spain , Netherlands or Portugal ). So you could have different islands and land for different factions which are free estate for players who side with those nations and any island could have several player companies with the same interest under the same colours even if they are from different groups.
Other players from other factions would be able to attack these player build settlements. It can be a system to which points can be allocated and go towards the faction you fight for. It could be be a system of Defensive Points (earned by holding territory), Offensive Points (earned by successful raids), and Strategic Points (earned by controlling key landmarks or objectives).
If a certain territory/island loses enough points because its player bases have been raided ( there can be a flag inside player settlements and if that flag is lowered by the other faction the base can be looted and the territory loses points ) it will open itself for a final attack which could be set as a server event were the territory/island can change hands ( for example England to Spain ) , this creates a social and competitive moment of weight in the game. There should be an amount of points that if a certain faction reaches it will be declared as the dominant side and winner of that particular season or period and than the points reset.
This can create a dynamic were even players from different factions will want to side with each other temporarly against a powerful faction. Shifting alliances, backstabbing, and diplomacy were part of life back in the day in regions like the Caribbean.
Players should still be allowed to attack anyone even from the same faction , this creates a dangerous world withing a mosaic of greater interests and powers but there should be a reputation system that influences temporary alliances. Players who betray their faction could be branded as "traitors" with consequences like losing reputation, resources and the risk of being attacked by their own faction.
You can tie faction-specific bonuses, like access to unique buildings, technologies, or resource gathering methods in fact bases in PvP zones that are tied to territory control would have advantages like a higher percentage of resource gathering and crafting speed. This boost of resources would not effect PvE players because if they dont want to they would not be part of the volitile and competitive nature side in which these resources would be invested.
This side of gameplay can open up gameplay routes for piracy and privateering connected to the interests of this point system and also title achievements for players who endured raids or won territories for their crown. Special rewards can be given to players who actively participated in the final battle like faction specific titles, land titles, or a permanent token that reflects their contribution to their factionās success.
Having such a system in place also opens further possibilites for customization monetization when it comes to buildings you could have different aesthetics blue prints for each faction's buildings and crafting items. This counts for flags , uniforms etc.
It will sound like a weird question: But who are Forward Gateway LLC from privacy policy? Just found this game, looks fun and promising. Yet got confused in privacy policy and terms of use. As in steam page developer and publisher are both Crosswind Crew.
Will the game have a boarding system?
Is it like ATLAS.....
yes
what is the age limit for the game
Just discovered the game with the Reddit post on the MMORPG reddit
It seems to look great and im super excited to learn more about it hehe
@grand light i do not mean to bother you but what is the age limit?
@gray glacier hey there
We don't have rating from the agencies yet as the game in relatively early development. But I think we aim at somewhere like 16+
Definitely not 18+
ok
We don't have excessive gore or something
But you know
How a pirate can live without rum?
o7
i can not wait to see it i get accepted to do a play test of the game
Thanks for your support. It will take a while, we plan to start the playtest later in April o7
i did my part and told the people i know about the game, i think a lot of people want a pirate game with multiplayer elements and social hubs, without the forced pvp of sea of tieves
https://x.com/Julia_CaSsian/status/1902469026950812154
I sincerely thank you for this! ā¤ļø
Please, consider increasing this limit.
The reason why I don't play Sea of Thieves with my guild is the party limitation.
The game looks very promising to be the Atlas we never had ā¤ļø
Yup, and the first boarding concept will already be playable in the upcoming playtest
just heard about game, is this trying to be similiar to Atlas or?
I would say those are the core concept of Atlas too tbh, but I'm for sure mega interested. Just a couple questions, I'm assuming using UE5, is modding support planned and whats the current longterm plan for max number of people playing in 1 area?
Been looking for a great pirate game for long time. Super excited to give this one a go and hopefully test it out. Sea of Thieves is currently one the better ones, but would love to see something with other mechanics and hopefully a better gameplay. It would not take much to surpass Atlas or the many other Pirate games out there.
I realize it isn't competing directly with Atlas or the other games, but they lack so much and some things they have in abondance are too much to have in a pirate game.
No plans for modding support as of now.
As for server capacityāwho knows! We haven't fully fleshed out the practical implementation of our mass-player online hubs, so it's still up in the air.
Sorry, meant to tag you for the answer above š
Long time atlas player here, 5000 hours in the game. How do I get involved with play testing on crosswind?
@sudden narwhal I played 6k hours in Ark, but you have way more time in Atlas than me lolz
Yeah, we get tons of questions about why the game has the MMO tag on Steam, or what the PvE/PvP balance is like.
Thatās totally fine! Weāre happy to discuss and share more details. I wish I could tell you more, but it is what it is, we're still at the early stages of development, so
As of now all I can offer is to request playtesting access on our Steam Page! And, of course, wishlist & follow the game, too!
It's nothing compared to the 20k hours some of the people I played with have lol
Fav dino?
hire the people who did battle bit to help w custom net code, I hate to be a Debbie downer but every time I see "mmo" my brain starts to find a exit. so few games invest the time or resources for net code to be stable reproduction at 200 players even and it's a sad state of the gaming industry for the last decade.
Actually true
If chosen for the playtest, im assuming theres going to be some sort of NDA?
Thinking back it took 5000 hours to build a guild base in ATLAS š
been a few years for me but:
I still remember the day Atlas got shown at that convention thingy and everyone was blown away
oh we share some secret servers together š
Who did u play w on official
had such promise then the devs stop listening to reason š¦
Yea, tends to happen alot with most games, for instance Asymmetrical games have that curse as well.
Depends on the season who I played with š
Official first dance emote in game
@torpid dirge what are the monitization plans for the game? Skin's & effects?
Nope. The playtest will be public, no NDA. Just remember we're still like ~1,5 years before full release, the game is very WIP now š
Im trying to remember the last private server i played on on Atlas, i think it was Infiniti Squadron. Very nice custom servers.
out of curiosity, was ashes of creations recent foryay into a open development cycle a push in this direction for you to get feed back and be public too? I ask because it VERY uncommon and ashes was the only company besides Larian (who made a single player game) to do this approach (which i think is a good thing, being honest)
Good, I'll make sure to break it very good
Jk
If I get your question correct... We just believe it's better to go with several milestones and incorporate real players feedback as early as possible. We already had the closed Alpha (uner NDA) like half a year ago. Now we feel we're moving in the right direction generally, so we took if one step further and started to use Steam playtest. Honesly, I am unaware of the case you're referring to with Ashes of Creatrion.
Hey there I think Bambino pinned the answer in #1298583059402063926
If Snail Games offers to buy the IP... Just say NO!
Nah we're not selling. Tortuga is a free city!
Okay guys, I was roaming thru my archives and found something REALLY silly from earlier dev days. Should I share it with ya here? š¤
what is the plan for the endgame after completing the story? what activities will there be? will our character have a skill tree? will melee combat consist of rolls and directional attacks?
Hey there, please check out #1298583059402063926 as I think it got some of your questions covered, mate!
That said,
-
Endgame right now is at design stage (the nearest playtest will not include endgame, as we stated on our roadmap it will come later). So we're still brainstorming and drafting various activities. Lots of cool ideas, but it's a tad early to share them now. We will do it in time for sure!
-
Not sure about skill tree specifically, we do want to have character progression apart from gear, but the exact form we will implement is an open question.
-
Rolls, parries, several types of strikes. Elden Ring is a good reference, but we're not gonna go that hard.
Cheers!
The Tusoteuthis for water and Giga for land, on modded servers the Night wyverns were defintely a favorite from Aberation.
@grand light I like direction you guys headed from what I have been reading. So far looking great. And @torpid dirge No problem on walking in water till fixed, In Star Citizen we've had people standing on benches for 12 years š¤£
Thanks, we appreciate your kind words!
I gotta admit, sometimes this "water walking" looks kinda hilarious, like a Monty Python episode. Good times š„²
Looking at ship destruction, are there a lot of structures and terrain that can also be destroyed?
we have a rough time frame for next invites ?
or is there a kick starter that we can jump in and help support the game and maybe get an access level reward ?
Also are you guys planning to be releasing any pre release game packs/ Kickstarter anytime in the near future? Would be very interested.
@brisk jewel you just beat me to asking that lol
Hello there
@fringe turret hey š
@brisk jewel @granite oxide nah, we're very far from doing anything sales-related.
We plan to start the testing in late April. Steam playtest randomly selects people from different locations and lets them in the game. For now just sign up and bear with us š
Perhaps if we have TOO many applicants we will do some key giveaway for the most hardcore community members.
@grand light understood, I know its a long process, happy to be along for the journey š
What do you say, @torpid dirge ?
And we're happy to have you on board.
I'd love to be a hardcore selection if any way possible, love giving feedback and making things break š
I see a trend here, with you, mate š
Done all that can be done for now, But I'll be anxiously waiting and soaking up any new info š
Can I ask two clarifying questions? I understand it'll likely be f2p with cosmetics and such available. Will you have any in game currency that you could grind for and essentially purchase the same cosmetics or is the idea to have FOMO? I'm all for supporting a game financially, but the idea of cosmetics only being available via real money gets to be a bummer sometimes when it's something super cool or the price tag is outrageous... I.e Once Human
Second clarification, with regards to your own world and inviting people is it then that I have to be on if the people I want to play with want to play, or does it allow for groups to join up and not have to all be on at the same time? Basically dedicated servers... Its tough with the multiplayer games that require everyone to be on at the same time. It would be cool to be able to have a world with all your friends/guild where you can each progress through the story at you're own pace, but can also plan time to do the extra multiplayer content you've mentioned.
Hope those make sense... Excited for the possibility to play test for sure!
Actually check out the #āgame-updates
If you haven't already, giving the game the tags you believe are most accurate is very welcome š
@solid elm I hear ya on Once Human, played it for 7 seasons
Your questions make perfect sense mate, but I'm afraid I have to log off now. However, we have some answers for you in #1298583059402063926 . Check it out if you don't mind, and if you have any questions left, we'll happily talk tomorrow o7
Once human had a lot of potential, but the ridiculous gatcha crates and cosmetic prices got to be too much... Plus the lack of content... Grind to the end... Server wipe... Rinse and repeat
@grand light the approach to survival looks good, it stinks when the game is so harsh on food and water that that's what you spending so much time on, rather say food that's for buffs and purpose through crafting than just keeping that food and water bar full.
@granite oxide I agree with that, it sucks when you're out doing raids or end game and run out of water and get blasted...
The idea of the "xp" looks promising as well... Unlike Pax Dei where I have to make 100 bronze spears to possibly open up the ability to now make 100 iron spears to unlock and so forth... Then just having 200 spears laying around without any use for them
@solid elm I played the Alpha for Pax Dei pretty heavy doing lot testing and feedback, it's come a long ways, but yeah their crafting system is harsh and wasted. I had max tier weaponsmith and metal smith
@solid elm I have the 4 plots pack, Was extremely disappointed that they were going to charge per plot to maintain per month, I'm hoping it's not that bad lol
I can't imagine what it was like at the beginning. I gave it a good 10-15 hours or so recently and decided to leave it and wait. I think I got to level 3 or something pathetic on weaponsmith and really could only fight boars... At least let me recycle the things I have to make... I am all for grinding, but there has to be some semblance of enjoyment imo.
@granite oxide I bought the four pack too without fully realizing that I'd likely have to pay monthly to continue... Kind of bummed me out a bit. I'm 100% about supporting games, but when it gets to be a bit ridiculous I have to bow out
@solid elm I have a few hundred hours in it.. It's got a long ways to go, looks like they are making lot improvements that have been requested for some time. Just the simplicity of being able to label chest was a huge QL improvement.
You are far more dedicated than I!
I just went back to Enshrouded š
@solid elm I'm just an old Gamer with more time than a lot of people to play games with. I programmed my first games on a TSR-80 with a cassette tape deck before the pbbs came online XD Stil remember 300 baud modems and fighting with family to stay off the phone lines for days to get a 5 mb download lol
@solid elm Enshrouded was lot fun - played that with my son and Nephew, we have also really enjoyed Return to Moria, it has lot gameplay that feels more fun in lot ways, but lacks to total voxel destruction and building of enshrouded.
@granite oxide I was pretty impressed with Enshrouded and their devs seem very open to suggestions (kind of what this one seems like as well) which is a nice change. I wish you didn't have to have dedicated servers if you wanted more people... Unless you were all on at the same time
Definitely a huge plus imo to have devs and creators actually talking with the player base
@torpid dirge I may have missed it in FAQ, do you guys plan to have the ability for servers able to set to public and well as private?
Hope this helps my chances š
Damn... Smart move!
@solid elm we may need to adjust ours, he took that from our post earlier lolz But love it XD
-
I wish I could tell you more, but thereās no hidden plan at the moment. We simply havenāt given monetization much thought yet. Right now, our entire focus is on core gameplay. Before even considering monetization, we believe itās important to make a great game thatās truly worth supporting. So, itās still way ahead in our priorities.
-
As for private worlds and multiplayer, makes total sense. As of now, even if you log off, your āserverā stays active, meaning others can join and play without you needing to be online. We expect it to stay that way in the future, so you donāt need to be in the same place at the same time for progress to continue.
And yes, the idea (at least the vision, and I really hope it wonāt break under tech limitations) is exactly what we're aiming for, which is a persistent world where you and your friends/guild can progress at your own pace, while still being able to team up for multiplayer content when you choose.
Sounds great!
@granite oxide following suit
Important note: by "others can join and play," I mean PvE, which is safe from losing progress to raids or ganks. Itās not a system where you log off, go to sleep, and wake up to find all your booty plundered. Your progress stays secure, so you donāt have to worry about offline losses. That's our vision rn
I'm sold thus far! Appreciate all of the discussions and openness on development and behind the scenes!
It sounds like a natural extension of the idea that YOU control who joins your PvE lobby, whether itās just friends or others you invite. But who knows, weāll see how things evolve!
@torpid dirge that was the biggest failure of Conan... Massive groups or even a couple individuals would monitor you till you went offline for different times, then come in and wipe everything during that time lol
@torpid dirge I'm patient. I've been with Star Citizen from day one - 13 years in development and still going. Hats off to you guys for the interaction and feedback.. It's what keeps the community strong, reguardless of time - just that connection is crucial to any game. If that connection falls off and gets severed for various reasons with out explanation, its reflected in the game itself. So far what's been seen of the post and feedback, looks like you guys care deeply about the project. It's well noticed.
I have played a lot of sailing exploration survival games and this one looks like it has all the missing pieces or most of them anyway that the others are lacking. So excited about finding out more
@brisk jewel that's what I've been feeling as well.
A prime example of a game that was hyped then died due to no feedback from dev's for long period of time, Age of Water. It had a massive amount of people, then dev's stopped communicating and at one point a couple of us logged on to see less than 20 online total. They are just now back to around 88, which is way below where they could have stayed had they communicated with their community.
Weāll see just how hardcore and persistent you are after your encounter with a boss named Israel Hands
(He doesn't know, chat.)
@torpid dirge lol well can't be any worse than Once Human Forsaken Giant on Pro mode (solo) , If we can do that, I'm sure we'll figure out how to eventually deal with whatever ya got in store for us š
im sure this has been asked alot but is there a rough planned release date
thanks
a real pirate with Hands in the name wouldn't have the (s) at the end
We really push for 2026, with playtesting rounds along the way!
Everybody's gansta till Blackbeard LEGS enters the chat
I had a feeling you wood say that !!!
Just feels like he should have something missing
Well, in the game's lore he's [REDACTED], and his crew is [REDACTED], so...
playtests are the real fun, breaking stuff, exploiting and pushing the games limits
@summer comet seeing lot of the funky stuff like water walking for sure lol
@torpid dirge another question. The game shows must be 18 to sign up. If we have children, in my case a teenager under 18 that wants to join me for this when releases, would a gift or key allow them to play? May not have an idea on that at this time. But would be great if we could bring family in at some point.
Steam has given us a 16+ age rating (more or less). For the playtest, there won't be gore or sexual content. Though, of course, there will be rum (whatās a pirate without rum, eh? š»). Essentially, nothing you wouldnāt expect from a classic swashbuckling adventure.
As for keys for friends/family members, weāll see what we can do. No promises, but weāll keep it in mind!
Ok more realistic version lol
@torpid dirge Rum (alcohol) was one the better things about LOTRO Online (played it for almost 10 years),, My son and I loved it, was hilarious lol
It went downhill after Turbine sold it. I played it from Alpha before launch and was hardcore on it for a decade.
Do a quiz and pick those who know why year is 17xx! :)
I'd put the answer here but not if you going to do a quiz lol
because if it was 18xx it would be about trains instead
actually piracy never went away - still a thing today, just not like it was back then
Just wouldn't be the same without Blackbeard, Rackham, Reed, Bonny, etc. lol
And mr Kidd who very likely was responsible for all the "buried treasure" legendarium emerging
@lusty patio theres many of them, those were just the ones that popped into my head lol
Would be cool to see alcohol Reputation, competition, and the effects of it on the player like it was or something similar to LOTRO. Best system I've seen in any game so far. Fighting while intoxicated or riding a mount was hysterical lol Was also lot of Reputation to be gained or loss between a couple of Alcohol drinking factions with items to purchase once at a certain rep. Added lot of depth to the drinking and a purpose.
Will this game have ships that are customizable like they were in Atlas? I have over 4k hours in Atlas and the ship combat is always what kept me coming back
Will everyone who requests playtest access get in? Can we stream the test?
@proven holly#š¬āwindrose-chat message
Have you guys considered issuing blocks of keys to guilds? Would imagine the feedback from groups with a lot of experience in similar games would be useful

Hello š !
Thanks Swabien i started writing a question then i searched "Servers" in the task bar and had my answers haha
release the game!! )))
Hi Devs, great trailer!
Looking forward to success of this project, I have a soft spot for Pirate Theme
I'll be bringing over lots of players from the crafting survival genre-
Currently got 100+ in group waiting on Dune Awakening, but this definitely got their attention
is it in bad condition?)
@frail forge test don't start until April
So it's more like a New World type of servers, I reaaaaally like Megaservers more so you can play with all your world region but i guess it's a Game Design issue, can't be survival/crafted world if it's not "locked" servers š ! Choices š !
Well, it's being prepared for our first big scale playtest. Should not be bad, but not release stare at all either.
Sounds dope. Dune awakening and Crosswind (relative to released game vision) are similar in many aspects. We will be happy to have your input here.
As a play tester, Dune isnt ready for a May 20th launch and needs to be delayed.
Sweet,
Our group likes to min/max and break games on Early Access and report findings to make the Launch a polished experience for us.
Looking forward to adding to your tickets š
i mean i very liked it and i know that the game needs time for fixe so my respect for u! Game should be amazing. I already wondering that i am looking at my ship from my second flour of my base on sunset ))
how will crossing between servers/areas work? Will you have some sort of server meshing tech?
No NDA. I only urge y'all to keep in mind, the game is work in progress, and we still have a lot of work to do.
As for the access. Well. Last time I checked the dashboard, we had 10 000 playtest submissions.
Now...my plan was to reach 8 000 in a month.
I am "a bit" shocked š“āā ļøš„š
But no worries we do have plans of more playtests with more participants anyway. These sign ups won't be wasted.
It's been shared around a lot in the communities I'm in, a lot of people are very excited for anything close to a spiritual successor to ark
where the devs are from?
Hello Fellow Test Squadron member o7
Very mixed distributed team. I actually pondered about this and put "Tortuga, Haiti" in our Facebook page. I think that makes sense š“āā ļø
I'm happy to hear that, we've put a lot of effort in our Steam page, so it's good to hear it got people interested.
it's good to be here! looking forward for the playtest
So we can wait for our 1st open test in april?
Oh, hi. And thanks for the vid earlier today.
Mid late April yeah. Look I really want to give you the exact date, but we have so much stuff to take care of id rather not over promise on the date.
Also I really hope you guys have seen the road map picture on the Steam page.
most welcome š ill be making much more depending on NDA and playtests , thank you for having me
No NDA anymore. Playtests will be public.
Sounds like a proper pack of sea wolves!
Thank you! I wish you success in making this project the finest of all pirate games!
Yeah exactly. So in April were gonna test the upper part with you laddies.
OK logging off now, see you all tomorrow and thanks for your encouragement. It means a lot for the whole team
Crew & Companion.. This excite me the most, If there is a focus on a guild system that would be really cool..
Guild missions/quests, guild Storage/Bank, Guild XP ! Long road but we're here š !
@grand light Do you have a press kit (hi rez logo, screenshots, artwork, colors, etc.) so we can spread the word?
Yes, it's in the #āgame-updates
lego
bet there will be lots of ashes alpha refugees
4man groups
Refugees from everywhere, gaming has changed and stalled
4 player cap is rough. WIsh it were 8-10.
Cannot wait to watch you and crew on this game

Thanks for telling me about it š
Ok I was interested when I first heard of this game today, but now I have to try it if phuzzybond is here too
Ahoy matey š¤
I submitted a request for the playtest pending approval- is that there because the test only has a set number of seats for now? (the game looks fun btw!)
I'd like to apply for the Development team, or at least QA team, are there positions available/where would I go to find out?
I'm wanting a successor to Atlas, not Ark
Only reason I looked into Ashes was because of the mention of naval combat

Awesome! Just joined the discord and looking forward to seeing whatās planned.
Loved the trailer but was wondering since I have a weakness for fashion, how in-depth the clothing and character customisation would be like?
@obtuse hawk not much on it at the moment but I'm pretty sure the intent is to have a decent amount click here --> #1352225461391982712 message
wait 4 player cap on clans in the game?
I think it reads more like 4 player coop instance for quests
interesting... so you can take a few people for quests, and not the whole clan lol
at the moment - not all quest are for 4 people - it's a different content - its not a raid@dense marten
thats fine, i just got told about this game a few minutes ago
ok good to know i was thinking it was 4 players total group
@dense marten I'm super hyped and yeah its got a ways to go but if you read through the FAQ and the Steam Community info , it's I think going to be well worth playing.
@proper geode #1352225356777783327 message
I'm sure there will be boss raids too š
im hyped too, I also registered for play test
ive got a nice little group waiting to play
they said at the moment be mid to late April for the next big test
Just heard about this game as well as reading devs description about this game on a reddit post. Wish you guys luck, game looks great (People on reddit are thinking this is going to be like Rust, a hardcore PvP centric game, if you guys can spread the word that it isn't, there will be alot more interest).
will thx
howdy, looking forward to see what the devs cook up here!
I just found out about this game, it looks freaking SICK! Looking forward to watching more videos on it tomorrow
Saw atlas mixed with sea of thieves and had to see what was going on.
same im over here playing atlas wishing for a new pirate game and boom this appears, it was meant to be
lol bless your heart still playing it
@sullen oasis @proper geodedefinitely looks like they may be filling a void of some things we been missing from those games. We need a good pirate game.
ive been itching for a well built survival game that was fast and fun.. thats the vibes i got from the trailer
i played an unofficial for a couple weeks then got bored from how dead it was, so ive been on scum and REPO now
i hit ark for a bit then kinda hop around other ones, and just repeat that process lol.
tried enshrouded... it was fun for a little
@sullen oasis I got all Arked out a couple years ago with 6k hours in it. done with that until Ark 2 comes out, which is probably a good 2 or 3 years away lol
scum is cool but the pvp side needs some work... then it gets boring
lol you see they just dropped a trailer for an ark evolved dlc
like ... come on guys
get it together
what engine is Crosswind built on?
@sullen oasis yeah I'm still a wee ticked at the Ark Evolved, they said they wouldn't charge for it, then turned around and did as it was suppose to be a holding block before Ark 2, then the dlc's, but they so far behind on it that they needed the funding.
how are they always out of money though
oh my bad cant swear lol
thats been their go to excuse for how long now... get a new accountant or something
lol
they made a LOT of bad decisions. The biggest one was trying to do ARK 2 in Unreal 4, all that wasted time, years worth...
How long have they been working on Crosswind?
thats why i was asking about the engine... im hoping they are using unity
for this game
ue5 makes terrible games lol
@sullen oasis good questions, can pop those in for questions to be answered
wheres that at
@sullen oasis I'm messaging a dev on those to see if they can be added to the FAQ
alright when you do that, ask them for an extra playtest key lol
oh trust me I did that look here š
sec
#š¬āwindrose-chat message click there and read down a little š
True , I'm not shy at all, I'm an open book and love to participate and give feedback. Can't wait to try it out.
Suppose to be a Test in Mid to most likely end of April.
I'd personally rather see UE5, its changed so much last couple years, but, wouldn't mind Unity , It's been catching up slowly.
AFAIK I believe it was stated it was UE5--but, some devs can do better depending on how they make the game
It's just got lot more limitations on graphics quality.
Here's where it was said
a lot of what ive seen, are the same assets just thrown on a generated map and so poorly optimized it hurts lol
oh thank you!
I mean, for some games it does feel like that--though from the trailer we were given, it does seem pretty custom made with a bit of a slightly more unique pastel-but-realistic looking style of graphic/art
almost a bit WoW-like but more realistic choices in terms of style
(for lack of better comparison lmao)
yeah i agree... definitely has some designs and art that look handmade
im going to be anxiously waiting to see more thats for sure lol
Same! Very interested to see the progress. It seems like it will scratch an itch for a lot of people who want something different out of a game like SoT or Skull and Bones... the issue for me with SOT is that--its very PVP-forced and very stringent in how its made/the gameplay loop. Its just scrounge treasure, maybe not get killed and lose it all, or turn it in and get a big payout... its not a TERRIBLE game for what it wants to be, but its not what a lot of people are wanting out of pirate games.
S&B... well, we all probably know whats wrong with that. But its arcadey, no island-hopping, purely ship combat and a numbing gameplay loop. (For me, theres no opening for text roleplay in either, which is a big draw for me. And if anyone has questions on the text roleplay stuff, feel free to ask xD).
My issue with SoT, traveling the world takes so long and like you said when you get jumped trying to cash out you just waisted sooo much time. The combat isnt even really that fun for that type of endgame.
S&B all they had to do was expand on blackflag for mp. They said... nope... pirate ship dog fight game.
i mean they also didnt have pvp at launch
That was part of my issue with Atlas too - the sail time and not being able to stop if I had too - The Water spouts were a total pain until I learned to just steer straight and ONLY look behind the boat lol@sullen oasis
Each kinda... has its own niche but its not appealing to an average player IMO. I play both I will admit, but its not something I want to play.
I was annoyed by everything you said but was willing to live with it, had they added anything new to the "new season"
100% agree i was looking at it from afar. its combat system is so bad not even worth paying attention to imo
Art style actually reminds me of the survival game Fountain of Youth
for sure
Oooooh I have seen that, but didnt look too heavily into it
Itās a good game and not too long either, worth your time if you like survival games.
theres a demo
Oh yeah--Im looking at it now--I can see some of the comparison; it seems like there is a bit more attention to player details/customization for Crosswind than that game perhaps?
Im gonna go try that game since none of my current games are pirate survival, and now im fixated on that lol. Was nice chatting with yall, hope to hear more news about Crosswind!
Being able to play with friends in a pirate survival game is what Iām ready for!
Can never have enough pirate games
Yeah, Atlas... had a ton of potential. Like... I was so hyped for that. The issue was for me that you had to have multiple maps (servers) to even complete the game's story. At least when I played lol
When will the test be open? I have applied for more than ten hours and have not passed
Mid to late April I saw someone say
Awkward, it's still so long.
It's a good game! But very different from Crosswind š
Hey everyone BTW and welcome aboard!
This image posted on reddit caught my attention! If we can move around our ship like in SoT and it not an object/character like in SnB then Iām even more excited.
Imagine how we waited for this moment. We started this project 2 years ago.
Yes, let me show you something.
Here you can see a Frigate, fully detailed interiors
Thats pretty incredible honestly. I've been saying all the time since Atlas ended up being a flop for most, we need a game like this. xD Very glad to see ya'll felt similar!
Love it! Thanks for sharing as I not come across that clip yet.
oh nice
I had a question somewhat related to the clip--is it possible to walk instead of run? (Or potentially planned at all?) xD (I know I ask like... the most silly obscure questions)
Yeah, I know, right? Most good pirate games are either dead or very old now.
that was a big boot lol
i was curious about this too lol
Im glad Im not the only one! š
My first online pirate game was Pirates of the Burning Sea and Iām still chasing that fix. Game had so many features that are still lacking in todayās games.
if theres a sprint im pretty happy with how the running looked
Same--I have a feeling there is a sprint, since most survival games do have that as baseline; walk is one that I dont often see considered much since... most average players wouldn't walk unless for very particular reasons.
Then again--if theres an encumbrance feature like most have too, I suppose you may have to walk in some ways
I'm guilty of doing that on New World--just taking the heaviest amount of stuff I have and just walking around town lmao
ohh yeah, no I almost always level up stamina heavy so i cant sprint forever lol
Sometimes the simplest question is the hardest one! I..don't remember. When you carry too much booty you certainly walk. Need to fire up the game and check now. Shame on meš¤£
Aw, thank you!
No worries. That's the knowledge I will need anyways š¤£
I'm so hyped, as of next week I'm free to start casually playing other games again and with the play test on the horizon I'm so excited to hop back into the community
The key difference is that in Fountain of Youth you focus on true gritty survival. I remember how hard it was especially in the beginning where even drinking water was a problem. I'd call it a survival sim. Or stranded on an isle sim.
In Crosswind you pass hungry/thirsty/no place to sleep stage very quickly. We focus on different part of pirate fantasy.
Yes we're using UE5.
It sounds a little bit like that one game in the amazon where you can use ants to stitch up a wound or something... I forget the name off the top of my head, but I did like some of the more intrinsic mechanics--even though they were a bit annoying at times lmao
I know why you feel that way, but no worries. The team has accumulated experience with this engine and we know how to work with it.
Green Hell is what youāre thinking of?
Yup! Thats the one
We started 2 years ago with a team of 5. What a ride lol.
Good things can come in small packages to start! Hehe.
Yeah, not sure why everyone is talking about Rust. Where did they get this feeling from. We are more Valheim about pirates (and then we will add some MMO to spice things up).
The whole studio is 5? Thatās cool. Diving into the deep end with this project lol. Have yāall worked on anything prior ?
Its very strange Rust came up with that... I didn't get that vibe at all
No no, we STARTED as a team of 5. Now 50 and we are not going to stop.
Yeah, most of the crew has prior experience.
Iāve sunk a lot of time into rust⦠too much time ā¦. Painful too much time. Nothing felt rusty there.
Oh right on
Less concerning then considering the mmo nature lol. I was worried how 5 would manage the chaos
I tried that one too when it first came out... when the zombie survival games were all the rave. I think at one point they billed it as a zombie survival with zombie animals... but I think the team shifted to a different vibe later in development
I mean the player base are zombies who donāt sleep or act human so⦠they werenāt far off
Yeah no worries. We have enough hands on deck to work on Crosswind. It would be a suicide to take that scope and hope 5 people will do
How many times have you used the pun āHands on deckā lol
rofll
Many thousand times (that's also a pun)
I wouldnāt have caught that one lol still new to pirating
I used to go to SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism) events IRL where they'd have pirate night at some point... those were fun
I wish to inform you that yesterday I saw the coolest thing in a month. I saw my friend in a mockup room working on moonshine rig animation š¤£
š
I think we need more budget here..need a real moonshine still...for historical...accuracy
Canāt say youāre experts if you arenāt doing it irl
roflll xD
No worries, it's from Rolling home shanty we used for the trailer
What part of the world is the studio based out of ?
Distributed team, many locations.
As I said before when I actually had to think of how to put it on Facebook page, I typed in "Tortuga, Haiti"
Right on.
Speaking of, have you guys considered letting like personal islands be offline playable while the PVP and MMO zones remain online required?
there was a game called age of water made by the devs of crossout which was quite a high quality game. crazy how they killed that game so fast. no idea why they didtn make it free to play with a bunch of cosmetics. they had a box price plus paid cosmetics and an ingame premium currency for no reason
I'm afraid that's not on the table right now.
All good, just wanted to ask to get an official stance
Sure. Just keep in mind, things may change. We're in the beginning of this journey.
No absolutely, I do QA / Develop for a living so I know how it is, I'm just looking forward to being a pirate and maybe if I'm super lucky setting up a collab with my streaming community and this game, we've played every other pirate game after all, no reason we couldn't try to go above and beyond on this one
Okay so you don't mind if I save your contact for later? When we have something to offer to streamers.
Absolutely, I don't have DMs turn on for less than friends due to spam but I can always add and send it to you there if you're ok with that?
Yeah lets do it, poke both @torpid dirge and me for future contacts
Gotcha, I'll send a friend request to you as well (I'm already friends with Bambino) and I'll make sure in the morning to send you both a proper formal message with contact info
hey there :) just gonna poke you here as well @grand light
hope everyone has a great day. looking forward to what this game Will turn into.
looking real promising!
@coarse shell okay so I have the MOST IMPORTANT news for you
In Crosswind, you can, indeed, WALK
Cheers o7
YES. Thank you kindly
I hope that makes you to rate us 10/10 tho!
Killer feature, it is
can I swim as well?
Well kinda
But it is not properly animated YET
You know, just miracliously walking in water
Oh hello btw
Met you on Reddit earlier today
As Posidion intended it
aye, poked you as well as requested.
that's more than I am used to from some other pirate games š
Let's go to DM then
how can do a playtest?
And for clarity, if you guys do streaming or YouTube, please poke me or @torpid dirge
We will save your contact and will DM you once we have something for content creators (apart from press kit that is in the #āgame-updates )
Have you applied on Steam game page matey?
yes
Then for not it's just wait
We plan to start letting ppl in mid late April gradually
ok thx
For now bear with us for more news and insights
for example
I can show you how the game looked 1,5 years ago
Want to see? š
highly anticipated
yeahhhhh
o/
well brace yourselves laddies
I present you
the MOST dangerous enemy in the Caribbean
THE COCOCNUT
lmao
OMG, just like Valheim trees D:
looks like coconut is best of the weapon
Next balance patch:
ā Coconut armor penetration and damage has been reduced
better equipped a construction helmet before hitting a coconut tree
crosswind offers 4 languages, have plan for a more laguages?
Pirate talk?
Ahoy āHello.
Avast ā Stop and give attention.
Aye ā Yes, I agree.
Bail out ā Help a friend in need.
Belay ā Command to stop.
Bilge ā Nonsense and foolish talk.
Booty ā Loot from the battle.
Chew the fat ā Friendly conversation.
For sure! For this playtest, weāre offering 4 languages, and we definitely plan to expand localization in future stages. The gameās evolving quickly, so keeping everything fully translated is a bit tricky for now š
Sup everyone
a bit tricky
Honestly, as long as a text roleplay community can legitimately thrive, I'll rate you guys 100/100
I am actually a discord server owner of the remnants of the unofficial New World Roleplay Community, which--obviously this game is much different than New World. BUT. It has similar aesthetics/somewhat period-similar, things like that.
At the onset of New World, we were kinda promised that we would be supported at the bare minimum within the game (by one of the developers even trying to check us out in the discord/seeing what could help us while they were in early development)--but it ended up that absolutely none of the promises were held upon and... it ended up that with the further changes to the game (being kicked off the servers after inactivity periods, etc etc.) we just got drowned out and even mocked on stream at one point.
I do understand that text roleplay is fairly niche and... probably not a lot of people's cup of tea now adays, but--I do know that the community OF text roleplay can become a very loyal base of supporters, if we are given the bare minimum xD All we'd ask for is:
-
Local Chat that doesnt span whole towns (so people understand where a post is coming from--chat bubbles help this too, but New World DID have those things)... or even ability to make chat channels with varied proximities that could be set by a user, but that isn't something I've seen done yet in any game)
-
A basic transmog vanity system/character customization
-
Opt Out/In PVP
-
Walking Toggle
-
First Name/Last Name optional nameplates (even an underscore works with ability to use capitals at the start and after)
I think I mentioned some other things that Bambino had answered on as well (though he'd answered on all of the ones above this) -- you guys seem to support the bare minimum for a text roleplay environment, so I really do think you guys will pull in this niche of players. š
"a bit tricky" looks like this
And honestly, just answering the silliest of questions from me is a +100 in my book. xD
the sea calls me!!!!!!
We care. Even if we can't meet everyone's expectations on everything (I think it's realistic to think so), we want to be as clear about it as possible š
Exactly ā¤ļø
I do? (JK)
I wonder if there will be more building tile sets as we advance. Like building pieces in fired brick, fine wood, metal would be cool.
Absolutely. Our current vision is that we add more collections, but players can also mix them to unleash their creativity.
looking forward to more languages āābeing available š
Only pirate talk is being added.
how big is the focus on the Naval aspect currently?
in what degrees can we customize our ships and how much of the content would you say happen on the water?
With having our captains cabin onboard will we be able to customise it with trophyās/items that we obtain?
Ok now that I have permission to say this, I'm so excited to play again, I easily hit over 40 hours of not more in the alpha in the short time it happened, it was so much fun and I'm so ready to get back into it
The naval aspect isnāt the main focus yet, but ships are already in and fully playable. Without spoiling too much, theyāll become much more important in the later stages of the story and endgame, think large-scale events, faction warfare, and naval raids.
Currently youāll find the basics: steering, naval combat (shooting), traveling between islands, sea shanties (of course!), and an early concept of basic boarding system.
As for customization, none at this stage, but itās very likely to evolve. Same goes for sea content: thereās not a ton yet. But it will grow, eventually!
Meanwhile, go take a look at posted ships in #1349774704126328932 š
Good morning, just found about your game and im pretty excited. Ill get up-to-date asap but im curious atm, is there any sectional ship-building or just pre-prepared templates to buy? Im thinking about shipbuilding in atlas here
I was also curious--about the biomes; I think I read there was 4 total planned? I figure it may be far too early to say right now, but. If things pan out well, do you guys feel (at this time) there could be potential expansion for more with further support of the game?
Hey all
Dropped some screenshots we did for Steam, but did not include it in the page in #1349774704126328932
Maybe you'll like it š
just a opinion, having progress in boats (from customisation option to dmgVSmitigationVSspeed/damage(ect) types (element type, magic type ect) should be a easy starting point) is a good way to encourage goals for progress throughout seasonal settings & resets for faction systems becoming stagnant over time
Coast Jungle + Highlands + Swamps right now
And yes, more will come but no spoilers for now
Thank you ā¤ļø
Unfortunately like is not the right word for it...
Fortunately Love is
OMG, LIRIK streamed our page yesterday!
https://www.twitch.tv/videos/2409834159?t=1569s
and someone brought up the game to Asmongold's sub lol
https://www.reddit.com/r/Asmongold/comments/1jg01qy/finally_a_good_pirate_game_after_this_and_yakuza/
and I've come across this dude on TikTok
https://www.tiktok.com/@love.to.gaming/video/7483837024450006294
It's pretty encouraging see the game being picked up
If you guys see anyone streaming/showing off, you're very welcome to poke me and share the link. I'm very interested to see how people react, what they talk about, etc. I don't have all analytics tools set up yet, so your help will be much appreciated!

I can't wait to be able to stream this to others, from everything I've seen and heard so far y'all might actually be the thing SoT has to fear, especially since you have PVE and a way more wholesome community management so far
To be fair we don't see us and SoT competing now. Despite of the common theme, the genres are TOTALLY different.
They are completely different games you're right, but you and them are the only ones who have a very solid looking co-op pirate adventure game, the leg up for you is you have PVE and they ban people for just saying those 3 letters
The closest I can come to sailing the seas and going on treasure hunting adventures with friends right now is POTBS and that's an MMO from 2008, safe to say it has some old game jank to it
Awesome sauce! Thanks for sharing
When you say mmo, how many players are we talking is going to be avaible the game?
Megas with 100 players/comp and 2-5k players in a server or 100 -300 players for small tribes?
good to hear for a ship nerd.
gonna be interesting how it plays out.
Pls more than 4 players for the campaign. 8-10 would be righteous
a bit of a curveball.
but I'd love to see a representation of life on a ship in a game at some point. with management of the crew and how they interact with each other. but in a way where you can actually go up to them and see what they do.
don't think there's any game that really represents that other than replacing some crew mates around.
always thought crew coming up to you for decision taking that have an impact on how they act etc would be amazing.
But I doubt that's the focus of this game here. so it might be a bit off-topic ^^
Is there a game outside of the sim life genre that does this?
only to very small degrees. never super in depth.
there are management games that go into that bit.
Like which games have NPC relationships? I get that crew doing menial tasks, maybe have quips to say at one another for flavor are cool but having 'choice matters' mechanics in a survival game is a new twist I've never seen.. maybe aside Medievil Dynasty
8-10 would be about perfect
do old fallout games count?
it's pretty rare in newer games
Iād have to imagine an mmo and that type of companion system wouldnāt mesh well
Too many moving parts and variables for both sides of systems
that definetly goes into the right direction. not a survival game but I can see it work on a ship
I donāt see why not, crew and their feelings factor a lot on ships so it would make sense
Bonjours vous savez quand on a Access a la beta ? merci
honestly I hope the damage model is at least split per side or even better with proper leaks.
it might be asking for much especially since naval is not the biggest focus currently.
but a man can dream.
and basic cannonplay with different ammo types like chainsshots and grapeshots
No idea, Iām not really too worried about how they do it as long as the game is fun and also uses logic.
Ammo types is a definite must and something Iād like to see
did I understand right, that this game has dodos?
Yup āŗļø āŗļø āŗļø

A lot of game promote themselves as multiplayer but the only social engagement they include is killing each other or npcs (Skull and Bones).
Will you be looking into clan systems?
Working text/voice chat?
Social activities to increase engagement like minigames (gambling, 5 finger fillet, getting drunk, playing music etc)
But some feel like solo offline games as they offer almost zero social engagements
yep
11/10
Bambino, u are from Italy?
Amico mio, no, I'm not. š
(I hope I said that correctly!)
Canāt wait to sink the Portuguese
Where do we comment under the announcement with our tags that we left?
On the link in the announcement post. Itās on Steam.
We need a Pre-Alpha, Alpha or a Beta to test the game
Will you be looking into clan systems?
Clans/factions will be part of the game in some form, yeah.
Working text/voice chat?
Still under discussion! Weāre not sure if weāll implement full in-game voice chat at launch, but some form of communication will definitely be available: text chat, pings, maybe quick commands.
Social activities to increase engagement like minigames (gambling, 5 finger fillet, getting drunk, playing music etc)
Funny story: we actually prototyped a guitar-hero-style shanty minigame just for fun. So who knows, it might make its way into the game someday! But yes, we absolutely want to have social and lighthearted activities like that š
If we make an account here, will you subscribe? š
100% add a dice game, generic poker game we can use ingame items to wager against eachother.... Always missing from pirate games, like people never played games on boats or something D:
Weāre currently in the early stage of development, so yes, the upcoming playtest is very much an alpha playtest, if that's what you're asking
Thanks for the response! Really appreciate it
I also ask, when will some of us be able to test a Alpha?
next month, mid month give or take a week'ish
late april will be the next test phase
There are plans to have an open world PvP zone with resources right?
Something to fight for and give meaning to the PvP (and eventually clan v clan) game loop
there are, although idk what "resporces" you mean like stone? or ingame items? idk about how thats planned but yes there are pvp zones
Right, but specifically asking about Open World PvP zones, not instanced fights
seems like they are leaning more to "factions" more then guilds but i think those are not solid commitments at this point
And since this is survival/craft, I'm assuming there will be rare resources we want to fight for
We havenāt really gotten to that part of gameplay yet (core systems & gameplay are our current priority). BUT yeah, having resource-rich PvP zones where thereās something worth fighting for absolutely makes sense
Thank you for your time and response
I wish I could share more, but yeah, first we need to polish the core gameplay before we can even start thinking seriously about adding activities like these
Bambino, Where are the tags? #1298615271686279208

š
You're right, they're missing! Thanks for noticing, gon add them rn
For sure worth taking a break from work to go on steam and comment the tags lol
Where can I go to find more on this game? Interviews, hype videos? The Youtube channel isn't giving me much to go off of
theres a few things in #1349774704126328932 but i did a deep dive last night and theres not much left to find at the moment.
Hey there
It's been 2 days since we published Steam Page. So not that much content yet.
I understand. I'm not trying to sound pushy, this just looks right in my wheelhouse and I want to watch ALL THE CONTENT! You can send me all the in house testing videos, I won't share.....
is it wheel house or wheelhouse? what is and actual wheel house?
Thereās a few other videos on reddit not yet linked here
Wheelhouse is more modern vessels where the vessel is commanded inside from the wheelhouse
Tall ships the vessel was commanded on deck as it was directly connected to the tiller below the vessel.
Is this game gonna have ship to ship PvP and on ground PvP or just 1 or the other
Thatās actually one of the core pillars weāre aiming for! If youāre in a PvP zone, the gameplay is planned to be seamless between sea and land. So yes, you could potentially bombard from your ship, then disembark and jump straight into close-quarters combat on foot.
Sounds perfect
Are they going to have historical nation flags to fly on the ships? Or will it be fictional nations? Also, how big are player built bases allowed to be currently?
Is it 3rd person only or is it 3rd and first just curious
Okay. Let me share something cool then!
That's how the trailer song sounds in the actual game š
I freaking LOVE the shanty! So cool
Also what r the crew sizes? Like for friends 2-4 or 1-3
It does not work like Sea of Thieves. You command your ship fully. And there will be NPC crew.
However, we will also explore the options for other ppl to help - but that's not in the scope right now.
Ok
Could we still like play in the same session together and sail together or would I need them to be in a specific zone to meet them
AI songs sound so real already, damn
Looking wonderful
You can invite them to your "world" and play together just fine.
That's not an AI song though!
PvP together as a team or separate
Just asking these questions bc Ik my friends r gonna wanna know
I don't think there will be much PvP in the current playtest.
Just asking overall
There will most likely be a dedicated PvP area.
alright that's cool. I was almost certain that it's AI š
As far as the PvP, what would you say the goal currently is for the ratio of Naval Combat to Ground Combat?
I have a million questions and I'm not trying to flood the chat with them all. A channel where we can just post them and hope for a response from the team, whenever they have the time, would be super dope.
lol im right there with ya
This
ive been bugging them since last night
FAQ answers sum
Hi there! Super excited for this game.
Welcome!
Hey there, glad to have you aboard!
Hey everyone. Got tons of question about this games... š¤£
Ooof, I donāt have a definitive answer for that just yet.
What I can say is that we want ranged weapons (think muskets and the like) to feel meaningful. Every shot should be impactful, from the sound to the sheer joy of firing one. To support that, weāre aiming for a melee-to-ranged ratio somewhere around 60ā70% melee to 40ā30% ranged, or so
Could we have a discord server feedback channel or would it be okay to put that in #1298615271686279208 ?
Do you think it is possible to make a list of question that you can answer for every body in other channel?
Sure thing! We have #1298615271686279208 for more of playtesting feedback, but any suggestions about the server ā please share them with me in DMs
Whenās latest?
Yes, will certainly do! For now, gathering the most asked questions ā will follow up
Play test
The latest one was about ~5-6 months ago or so
Ah ok whenās the next one?
Late April
Ight bet
He liked it so Iād imagine ur right
What are the teamās current biggest challenges? (server architecture, animations, server hit reg, etc)
And what is the biggest impact help the community can do rn? (Outreach/Awareness for game, surveys, etc)
quick question, the playtest has NDA?
Thanks. I will do a list of questions later and maybe you can see some suggestions inside.
Bambino, exist role to Content Creators in Discord? Streamers or Youtubers?
Not yet, my friend, but will certainly be in the future!
I just signed up for the playtest. I hope I'll get access soon. I'm really excited.
what do you mean we don't play together
misunderstanding aside. I would.
I just really hope that Boarding combat is not the ultimate decisive thing in any engagement.
I feel games like SoT can tend to have issue that's way where it only matters If you are really good at melee Conbat to finish someone.
OMG me to, all my gaming bro's requested this and cant wait for access, finally a game worth getting excited for,
anyone know the average wait time for the email by chance,
Hey there
the test is about to start in late April
Steam will randomly give access to those who applied according to our desired numbers
We have over 15 000 applications right now. If you're really up to testing, you can increase your chances by participating in our key giveaway contest (keys will give direct access bypassing the Steam random selection)
You can find more details in the latest #āgame-updates
Winners will be announced on March the 28th if you entered.
It will be the possibility to destroy enemie bases?
I would love to see a long format interview with the devs kinda giving us an idea of the long term plans or goals. I'm really excited to see what yall have planned, even if it's a ways down the roadmap
got it, cant wait,
Is the game only 3rd person
Will the game include any historical elements, such as events or characters?

ABSOLUTELY!
Sorry for caps
We work quite hard on the narrative side ot things, we even are crating a big chonky Lore Book for internal usage.
Thanks to your feedback (shotout to @winged vigil) #1352659456911212636 just got a fresh new look!
Awesome stuff
There will be a mix of historical and "legendary" characters, places and events alike.
Hello and thanks for the game, I'm totally hyped and hope to get access soon š¤©
I would be really interested in either a physical or digital artbook if thatās a possibility in the future?
Also curious about stuff for content creation be that streaming, videos and possibly cosplay.
Adding onto the artbook, cosplay guide would be cool
I also poked around the team for a more nuanced, dev-focused answer, and hereās a real peek behind the curtain:
What are the teamās current biggest challenges?
Right now, itās a mix of technical architecture and gameplay integration.
We have a strong vision:
- Everyone having their own persistent world/server.
- Large-scale environments with as few loading screens and transitions as possible.
- Seamless gameplay between different systems, like jumping from ship combat straight into on-foot melee encounters.
- And, of course, making all of this run smoothly on a range of hardware!
But making that work on both client and server levels is a serious challenge. Weāre still figuring out whatās feasible, what it would cost to scale, and how to do it without compromising on experience. Itās ambitious, and yeah, itās complicated!
Whatās the most helpful thing the community can do right now?
Honestly? Testing and feedback.
Weāre deep in development and can sometimes become a bit tunnel-visioned. A fresh pair of eyes from the community helps us spot issues weād otherwise miss. And most importantly, we want to know if the gameās actually fun for you. Thatās the ultimate goal.
And of course, if youāre enjoying what you see, weād be incredibly grateful if you helped spread the word. The internet is a vast and chilly ocean... and weāre a small (but very cuddly) crew trying to steer through it. š“āā ļø<3
In the far, far, far futureāmaybe! Closer to release, though.
As of now, Iād suggest checking out our Content Creator Kit, if you'd like. Itās packed with everything you might need to cover the game: visuals, logos, key art, and more š
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1IZoe3dtVPeESBlDjc_502xGJpyDSUalM
so Crosswind is interesting, I showed my clan and everyone wants to join in š
I've been looking for a better successor to the game Atlas for years and I may have finally found it here
Huge shoutout to you and your clan!
So SEND MORE DUDES TO OUR SERVER
Blessš
Anytime, my friend!
so have we! we got a decent sized clan coming over ready to pirate the land and sea
arrrgghh š
Great fleshed out write up, I appreciate you
Will be standing by to help with the testing
How many years has this game been in development?
I think 4 or 6, we need wait to answer. Nice ask
wassup, any info anywhere about the studio developing this? if u guys are indie and not well funded any chance you are looking for angels?
@turbid spade I asked this earlier - and I think @torpid dirge will be adding something to the FAQ later with more detail but started in 2022.
Amazing
When playing with friends, will it be possible to sail with them on the same ship and operate, for example, cannons? And will the progression be shared is about the ship etc? Will there be any raids on our bases in PvE mode?
Bambino
How many years has this game been in development?
One feeling about the game
We started somewhere in the beginning of 2022, until our vision solidified in 2023 - so yeah, couple of year already. A wild ride for sure
Hello! šš» Thanks for making the game. Devs seem to have a good and level-headed vision for the game. I am very excited!
Yarr, fellow crooks, maraudeurs, buccaneers and vulgar sea thieves!
Hey guys, welcome to the server!
Joining to keep a watchful eye over Tortuga o/
Right up our alley then!
When is the actual playtest starting? Sorry if I missed the date somewhere
No probs, it's somewhere mid-to-late April, according to our plans
Got it, thank you
when is the playtest starting? date wise.
Late April I think.
oke plenty to go then
That's a thicc ship, buoy
how do you plan on firing all cannons at once, is there centeral command/control? or does each player get a cannon
Epic.
One player fully controls one ship (with NPC crew when we implement it). So most likely you'd choose firing decks in this case.
Lot is in the FAQ on that as well@turbid spade
uhh nice, i think its maybe a Galeone š
Thanks
Nah it's not Galeone. But we have Galeone in the works, too. Saving her pictures for a later date š
omg thx š¤©
honestly it almost looks a bit too big. there's definetly some inspiration by the victory if only i could read. if I am seeing it right.
will there be small SoL as well?
like 3rd rates or even 4th rates.
would love To see ships closer to HMS Agammemnon
For just 3 years of development the game looks insanely good
There will be, most likely, with time š
will there be npcs to man cannons/sails for captains?
oh yes a good question
Praying for the Erebus to be addedš
good morning all ya pirates
So can you tell us how ships will be built, like in other ship style game in the past that i wont mention here, we built the majority but then we could cutomize were cannons went and other items or will they be a set model @grand light
"My god, thats a big ship" / Mccoy
Sorry, meant to tag you for the reply above š
So more like Sea of Theives/ Skull and Bones, customisation?
are we allowed to post memes here?
would you be able to answer this by chance bambino?
Our current vision is something like this, yes. Ships will have predefined hulls and layouts, but we plan to support cosmetic upgrades, functional improvements, and visual tweaks over time. But in the future, not much to add here right now
I created a special āmemesā tag just for you in #1352659456911212636
Thank me with a meme later
I'll do so right now
just a suggestion, if you can make the ships so people can fully customize them as in painting the deck one color or sails another and cannons and so on, people love to put there own spin on things, not sure how hard that it so make happen but would be a huge perk
In our current vision - something like that, yes. You should be able to have NPC crew members who can help man sails, cannons, and other ship functions, especially useful when sailing solo or with a small crew. They wonāt replace players entirely, but theyāll definitely help keep the ship running smoothly. Can't say much here, again - all of this WIP š¦
Iād love to tell you more, but honestly thereās just not much done on this topic yet
Bambino fighting the urge to tell everyone how hypped he is with the projects for the game
tyvm for your answer! thats more than enough info for my clan, we are all long time survival game players and many of us have spent a lot of time on games like atlas and are looking for something to fill that void
you can tell by his replies he just wants to answer everything and blurt out all he knows š¤£

It really do be like that sometimes ā¤ļø
omg i know you can feel his restraint lol like omg i wanna say this but if i do i will be fired lol
How many player per server or will it be like atlas where all servers are connected and you go through server lines into others?

U promise?
@lofty basin if Alexis was excitedš
Atleast 500000 please
Pirates honor....wait...
beat me there, gj
it's actually a bit baffling. suddenly seeing a developer emerge from nothing like a ship on the horizon.
and it seems to give you almost everything you wanted including dodos.
next they tell me they gonna introduce Hippo Nuggets and I'm lost completly.

Does this mean it will be like an "extraction" type system where you will be able to bring your ship from your "personal world" into the PvP events?
All we need now is secret feedback club
With that being said will the game support both small (1-20) man groups and large (50-200+) man groups for servers with access to pvp?
As of now, the vision is something like this: youāll receive your first ship safely in PvE, and from there, itās up to you: earn or upgrade ships through PvE or PvP, depending on your playstyle. Might change in the future, but looks like this
Not decided yet, sorry š¦
@lofty basin we should probably create a list of things for the Devs to keep an eye out for, like the essence incident
how will damage work on ships?
will it be simple HP pool or will ships have sides / core like in NA. or is it literally visible dmg that is applied to the ship like SoT?
honestly it feels like those devs are somewhat aware of what typical exploit prevention looks like. or maybe I am assuming too much.
Well keep up the great work game looks great and no matter the outcome on large or small scale gameplay Iām sure myself and my fellow players would enjoy it! Hope to chat again soon I have 100 questions Iād loved answered but you seem busy today!
You can never be too careful
Ps I would like 250 atleast per server
can we pin this?
I avoid EVER agreeing w raine.... but he has a good point š¤£
Me and you just love large scale wars our only common like
In concept, it looks like this (I feel like I said this phrase a hundred times today already):
- Collision models with three main zones: outer hull, ship modules (like cannons, rudder, sails), and internal compartments.
- Damage depends on where and how youāre hit, with different projectile types affecting different parts of the ship.
- Crit zones, too. Hit the rudder or mast, and the shipās handling will suffer, etc.
Itās a complex and rather hard to implement, but we're doing our best to deliver it in the future!
what can I say kicking over castles of large scales gets me going
(All of this is planned, not available on the playtest!)
skilled shoot manually a thing or is it rng w just direction/position?
Alright, Iām gon take a smol break. No mischief while Iām gone!!

i can say so far from what my group has seen we are excited and cant wait to play!
Yes, even in the current realization you have to aim it right to hit the target
Top player Atlas hype
I think you will have a lot of question to compare the game with Atlas. š¤£
so when outer hull is down the ship sinks or does it have like a core structure that needs to be damaged?
how will leakage work?
personally I believe having 2 sides + core hull HP improves Naval engagements by a lot.
it adds depth in form of positioning and deciding what side of your ship you want to show to the opponent.
leakage could make wind and positioning matter as well.
sounds good anyways.
sailing ships goes sailing = me happy
Just confirm to me we don't have fast travels, and i'm all in
Youāre forgetting about 2-3 other things
are we just reliving our SnB trauma right now?
yes
That one was an obvious trainwreck before it launched
1- Are there dragons?
2- Will there be silly status effects tied to elements that ultimately end up ruining balance and breaking the game
3- bad fake/fictional ship design
for my own sanity i shouldn't join that discussion š
š
āļø
I'd like to add to that :
1- Actual realistic aiming cones ( not being able to shoot at a 360° radius )
2- Please, don't make the ships sail like a F1 Car
I concur
Also, will there be wigs?
they should add hippo nuggets and it's a sealed deal.
My good friend The Marquis would be disappointed if i didnāt ask
Dodo wings
another good question would be is there deck defenses similar to swivel cannons?
So I know there was talk about flags and such, any chance of being able to create our own flags to submit for use in the game ?
Not had that since Pirates of the Burning Sea and would love to be able to do it again.
lol COD Black Ops 2 ruined that for everyone
I think it was black ops 3 that did it in
lol one of them thats for sure
things went wild fast
test key?
You can enter a competition for one now on their steam page, winners will be announced on the 28th.
has that worked in any game server ever lol

@pliant bone :#š¬āwindrose-chat message and here #āgame-updates message for Keys information
Are there dragons?
Not in the game⦠but I honestly canāt speak for the creatures lurking in this Discord server.
Will there be silly status effects tied to elements that ultimately end up ruining balance and breaking the game?
Well, not sure about the ruining balance part, but we had a rum effect previously described as:
"Drunk as a skunk! But for a pirate, thatās just business as usual." š»
Bad fake/fictional ship design?
That depends on your faction loyalty: some playtesters previously built literal X-Wings from SW out of building blocks. I mean, I'm not judging
All i needed to knowš
will custom sails/flags be a thing?
you're most certainly welcome!
as in player uploaded
Not sure about this one :/ but who knows
The rum thing sounds interesting though, different from what i was referring to and by ship design i meant ones we can use. The ships in Atlas would end up looking ridiculous
Seeing what creative things people can make with the building tools in the game like structures is always exciting especially in the community.
More so worried about a ship being added that never existed
i appreciate all your answers so far as im sure everyone else does as well!
honestly as long as they take straight inspiration from real life ships, I think we are in for a good one. :)
would love to see a La Renommee inspiration
Youāre doing a great job answering peopleās questions, Iām sure itās not easy having to repeat yourself and trying not to tell us everything
or even what kind of ships the community wants to see in forms of polls / suggestions š
I think some pirate classics would be in order
Thanks! We're just love pouring our hearts into our game and our community. ā¤ļø
Communication on this discord is on point
i just hope the guild/clan (whatever they end up calling it) system supports small-large groups for all types of content, itd be awesome to see what a group of 20+ can build together in their pve zone for storage etc
have to agree
i cant wait to play, you guys seem very passionate about it!
Bermuda sloop, Xebec, sloop of war and a Chialoup would be cool to see
Oh and a Baghlah
not biting.
they did talk about dark zone style pvp earlier.
not sure about emergent gameplay.
Yeah i saw that which is always nice to see
is playtest live right now? how long will it be open till ?
Very new here, but a friend sent me a trailer today and dang. I am EXCITED!
Do we know if the game will have controller support at all? š
Also will this game has open world PVP ?
I just joined and went through the #1298583059402063926 it has a ton of that info @vapid raptor . Looks like it will have pvp zones on sea and land but sounds like there may be some safezones as well.
Holy freaking hell. This game...
Please let me know if there is anything I can do to get in on any sort of testing for it. š
wonder if they're going to limit the playercount or try to stress test the servers
They may want to stress test servers if they have a datacenter they gonna run officials on. Usually want to test on those to give better idea on what people need for self hosted dedicated servers(if they plan to have dedi servers)
