the effect added in 2.2 can be disabled in the game options, its a vanilla thing

i guess the only way to do that is via low detail mode option but that disables other things that people might want to keep

low detail mode should be on the options list instead of help, and maybe split into options like "no glow" and "no orb pulse" instead of it all in one
