Gems should not be capped, period.
well, that would be better, but they are for power balance. would need a cap on what you can equip but would just be better with a redesign instead
gems are capped by equippable item slots, gems themselves should never be capped
the current cap does what

feels like a tech oversight more than anything
can't know for sure but this is how it looks
you now have 10 large gems + 2 medium gems, and the biggest is useless. without gemcap you would have 60% more gem power
needs a redesign or cap on what you can equip
or just tiers being competitive
the problem stems from tiers being overall way worse than bajillions gems
they could all have one more line of buffs and maybe people would consider more than dark prophecy and tuzari grace
or be 4% instead of 3 idk
with how it is now you go 8x360x1.35 = 3888 + 360x2 = 4608 + 2x240x1.35 = 5256
if you dont want gem caps and no rework then we end up with 10x480x1.35= 6480 + 480x2 = 7440.
this makes gems even more powerful and waay out of bounds and also makes tier even more redundant
or add that if all 3 components are equipped theres one more line of buffs that are on par with the 2set so ur incentivized to "lose" 3 gem slots
If they feel like allowing significantly more gem power than what's possible right now is too strong then Flawless gems should simply be removed. No one uses them now anyways. Maybe for a few hours before you have enough sockets.
Then gems can be uncapped and you only gain a few hundred gem power at most.
but yes i agree that gems can go too hard if u get only gems, esp with the new gem affix to fill some gaps
thats proof that the whole system is misdesigned though, if the best course of action is to never make a lvl4 gem then theres a big issue

I do think that the tier 4 gems are just a mistake though, they're so expensive that farming a full set would take a entirely disgusting amount of time and I highly doubt anyone would enjoy it.
If you wanted to keep t4 gems in the game without raising the total player power granted by gems you'd probably need to increase the gem drop rate by 3x and also reduce the power of a small gem to 90, large to 180, splendid to 270, and flawless to 360 and then uncap gems. Which leaves us in basically the same place but with an extra tier.
yea but at least making 1 for ur legendary should be the good way to do it

gem cap is made to limit the tier 10's you can acquire. I do agree it should be limited within the gear and not the inventory. Also I think the way it's done, makes the flawless gems basically worthless since almost all classes (if not all) do not run them since it kills the gem power with way too taxing equivalent amount of gems taken up from the cap.
x3 Individual Splendid = 27 gems = 360x3 = 1080 Gem power
versus
x1 Falwless = 27 gems = 480 gem power

Tier gear should allow gem slots but no 35%
At some earlier point I thought that was the plan and I recall them mentioning it but didn't make it
nah, tier just need to be slightly stronger and gems rebalanced, gem t4 removed among other things, so the cap can be removed

It still is the plan, I asked Hamish after the patch dropped because we didnāt see it anywhere and he said āit wasnāt ready for launch but it will be added laterā
those things seem simple enough to implement... not sure why they delay it so much

And to be clear we all agree on the things stated in here even the devs to some degree. For them itās a matter of priority with the resources they have.
does anyone else like the gem cap? i kinda like the idea of it, i just think it's really poorly implemented
seems like a good system if they change how it is indicated, fix the scaling vs t4 gems and and make it so they you dont have to rereoll your last gems arbitrarily to get what you want
I think it needs to be increased for some of the stated reasons above such as never using the biggest gem ever
I'd say eliminate the flawless gem and make the same cap gear-driven... and allow people to continue to collect gems without limitation to be able to play with different builds without taxing it so much with re-rolling materials
