#Community pact rules have no impact

How come people agree to the new community pact rules and then proceed to keep going with their old behaviour?

I think a serious policy is in order to get a more healthy community. A play nice policy for example.

What would also help is to add more requirements to playing ranked for example a mastery level of at least 5 on the champion, this would also lower the multi accounting population.

Lmk your take on this!

polar fog
#

Horrible. You'll get to whatever rank you belong. Inting teammates aren't the reason you're stuck.

amber swift
#

that's not going to fix the toxicity issue

polar fog
#

people get to mastery 5 and still end up feeding because the opponents are just that much better. It's effectively pointless.

#

HOTS had a similar req, that game is also dead.

#

normals suck and I think some haven't touched normals in years.

There are plenty of champs I'm competent on that I'm not even M5 on yet why should I be denied picking them because I'm not M5 on them? As for player behavior, riot has two problems: problem 1, how to effectively automatically detect griefing? (People will soft int to avoid penalty, been a thing for a long time). Problem 2: What meaningful rewards do players get for actually behaving well? Oh....right...nothing of significance.

gaunt depot
#

I do think a Play nice policy will do a lot for leagues community but they gotta invest time in to it in order to pull through.

full glade
#

The problem is both a combination of how to effectively detect and then dissuade problem behaviors, and, at the same time, how to give meaningful rewards for the desired behaviors. I think the former is hard to really do substantially better than they can now, but the latter imo is being undervalued/underutilized.

# gaunt depot A good example of what annoys me although i will never say it in game cause you ...

Welcome 'league of legos' as my ex would say. Most people really don't know how to itemize for shit. Even people that are 'decent' at it are a long ways from having it optimized. Funniest thing is when you find the meta build for a champ is x, but you figure out something that's quite demonstrably better than the meta build. I kept doing that a lot when I playing this game more seriously years ago.

polar fog
#

Why else would you require mastery 5?

vocal hound
#

Anti Smurf measures. Obviously.

full glade
#

Funny thing is: take 2 similar skill players and have then play v. each other same lane for 5 games and you'll get very different results across those 5 games. Game-to-game variance in LoL is extremely high by nature (the game is volatile and prone to snowballing by design)

vocal hound
#

Smurfs are a huuuuge source of toxicity in this game- even in games they aren't part of.

polar fog
#

but people need to be level 30 to begin with. That's like 200+ games already?

vocal hound
#

Very much depends

polar fog
#

(granted, people do play vs bots. and whatever.) So not like it's actual "games."

vocal hound
#

Not when you're taking in to account bought accounts

#

The point is that it's another minor way to dissuade smurfs that doesn't usually impact legit players.

polar fog
#

okay, so people buy accounts. Now they buy accounts with mastery 5.

full glade
#

Riot is taking a more active role in combating botted accounts (I've noticed a lot less of them in AI games myself)

vocal hound
#

Now in addition to leveling to 30, account sellers have to tailor accounts to have certain champs at mastery 5?

#

They'd be selling based off of role atp and that's a big difference.

full glade
vocal hound
full glade
#

That's an interesting angle I hadn't considered

vocal hound
#

It makes account baking waaaay harder

#

People playing 3-5 games in norms on a freshie to get really good mmr off the rip in ranked

#

You're stuck playing far more, which is way more volatile- makes people who buy accounts just for that restart disincentivized to do so

#

Idk, it's not some world-saving solution, but it has its merits beyond what you'd initially think

full glade
#

I personally have wanted to see surrender voting go away entirely

vocal hound
#

I'm part of that crowd that plays champs I don't have m5 on, on my main

polar fog
#

I haven't touched normals in years. Just do everything in ranked.

full glade
#

imo it feeds the same kind of player culture that goes hand in hand with toxicity. I queue up for LoL, I expect to play, win or lose, until someone destroys the other nexus

polar fog
#

like if you lose it's whatever, your next match is theoretically easier to compensate.

vocal hound
#

Most games across the majority of the playerbase are much much closer if people actually play them out

full glade
#

Eh if all of the players want to FF, you can just derp around and let enemy shove in and win (open mid)

vocal hound
full glade
#

like that still leads to a very swift win (and it shouldn't be too hard for the system to detect that everyone on the losing team chose to not put up a fight)

vocal hound
#

Highelo doesn't really suffer from that.

vocal hound
full glade
#

yea, I've had many a game I was confident we could've won FF'd and I lowkey hate that

#

d2+ is like top 3% of playerbase?

vocal hound
#

And I don't mean to give off a toxic vibe here, just going off of my anecdotal experience with people being able to utilize leads d2+

full glade
#

I don't think it's a massive pain really, especially given how fast an uncontested team of 5 ends

vocal hound
#

Eh, you'll always have people who are too committed to a win that just isn't gonna happen in that elo bracket

full glade
#

iirc norms in DotA2 don't have surrenders and it's not a problem for that game

polar fog
vocal hound
#

DotA 2 also has behavioural queues, in addition to account wide punishments.

#

Like, steam account wide.

full glade
#

if you lose, that was the expected outcome, good chance to practice playing at a deficit if nothing else.

vocal hound
#

Shrug

#

Not much chance for experience in a large amount of games that high

full glade
#

Also, why I dislike how snowbally LoL is

polar fog
#

The worst part of League is being unable to leave games that I don't think are worth playing.

vocal hound
polar fog
#

Time spent having fun is better than slightly higher mmr or more lp.

vocal hound
#

When you lose in league it's rarely fun.

polar fog
#

Yea, they're not fun. The fun parts are close games.

full glade
vocal hound
#

Nah, I get it

#

It's because league isn't like most games.

#

You straight up cannot play while losing in a large amount of situations

polar fog
#

gg go next. Like Starcraft, you just leave if it's a guaranteed loss.

vocal hound
#

Or, if you can, it's not clear how to most players

full glade
vocal hound
#

But like

#

Take CoD for example

full glade
#

imo, riot has pushed the game away from meaningful choice kind of by accident

vocal hound
#

It's ultra toxic

#

But people still enjoy playing while losing, even if they hate losing itself

#

Because you can still play.

#

You are not disadvantaged by being behind in the game

polar fog
#

if you believe you can win,or there's a benefit to staying then sure. Like TFT you can fight for 5th/etc. League? it's a lot less....

full glade
#

Not only that, game is toxic because it's player behavior is like totally unregulated

vocal hound
#

Right, but the toxicity is "fine".

polar fog
#

the worst parts are failed remakes or you get people who vote No and you play the entire game 4v5

vocal hound
#

Toxicity doesn't usually lead to lack of fun in CoD and shooters like it.

full glade
#

Lowkey, I really liked swiftplay prior to this season's changes to it, though I would've liked it to not have the accelerated pace, just the anti-snowball mechanics of it

vocal hound
#

If you mute, you're still playing a game that's pretty much "even" at all points- you aren't punished for being behind in a match.

#

Being punished for being behind in a match is not fun

full glade
#

was a way more fun LoL experience than standard when it was fairly new.

polar fog
#

New minion spawn timers I think are largely a benefit. Lowers the odds of the feeling of non-games (invades going wrong or right.)

full glade
#

Yea, shortened invade time is probably good for the game

polar fog
#

knowing that you've won from min 3 is slightly better than knowing you've lost, but not by much.

full glade
#

level 1 fights are big RNG for what the early game will be like (and LoL being a snowball game, that can be game deciding at even a medium level of play)

#

I think a lot of LoL's toxicity is unironically a byproduct of too much snowball and not enough meaningful choice when behind

polar fog
#

if you have meaningful choice when behind, why does a lead even matter?

full glade
#

having an early lead should mean you get to dictate the terms of the game to your opponent, not that they don't get to play an interactive game

#

rn, you get a non-trivial early lead in skilled play, and the enemy can't win a grouped fight, and can't trade evenly or better by being where your team isn't

#

there is no pathway to 'getting back into the game'

#

The team with a lead should have to do something with that lead or have it bleed away over time.

#

(i.e. they should have to take real risks to try and leverage it)

polar fog
#

it's already like that though (maybe less so with this season's changes.) There's passive gold to account for that.

full glade
#

I like the new permanent tower plates because they are helping teams that are behind have something of value to play for where the enemy isn't

#

but I fear that 1 positive move is more than offset by the other snowball favoring changes.

polar fog
#

if you are able to CS, the enemy's lead technically doesn't truly matter.

full glade
polar fog
#

although if you can't cs, then the gap just keeps growing.

#

I guess that's a top lane issue. (largely.)

full glade
#

Not true really, if I am 4/0 at 6 mins, I can farm faster than the 0/4 I stomped and broke his tower, and can do more on the map while matching farm, or poach enemy jungle etc. and get a resource advantage

#

lowkey Yasuo 0/10 meme is a byproduct of him being a good scaling champ and a monster powerfarmer

#

one of the only champs good enough at farming to CS his way back into a game

polar fog
#

I know you can do more on the map, but it feels better at least. "It's someone else's problem now."

full glade
#

better to let the stomping lane take tower and start rotating the map

#

because this does 2 things: #1, they can impact other lanes, including those that might be going poorly, #2, the person who got gapped can get some relative peace farming the long lane when it's safe to be there.

#

early seasons of LoL has this, then we got original version of tower plates (to ostensibly combat roaming meta)

#

roaming meta imo wasn't bad for the game.

In terms of your idea on how to play the game in a way you think is best i’d say muting everyone is a step one. And look on the map. Whenever i queue up with a friend the guy tells me “the whole team is spam pinging you lol” And i’m not even noticing it since i’ve already pre-muted them all at second one. (With a 70+% winrate on shaco jungle, based on 300+ games.)

Perhaps if we start looking at roles for what they are and keep that in mind during the game we will all get along better.

For example, when there is no vision set up around an objective and we don’t know where the enemy is or if they’re cheesing in a bush i personally think the following:

Why did our support or mid/adc not at least put a ward at the pit. Ofcourse a jungler is also responsible for vision but most of the times you tend to leave one for your top laner (i do at least.)

Another one is, after objective is taken a lot of coin flip fights get started by the team that just got the objective and in most cases does not end in their favour. I have found that after the objective is taken it is best to boot out asap and keep up the tempo, which i still always do even though the other 4 team members are going bananas after the objective was taken already by us.

polar fog
#

if you're at a 70% win rate, that means you're playing so far below your skill level.

vocal hound
#

70% wr over 300 games is nuts

gaunt depot
#

What i had hoped to see with the new community pact is that the playerbase would at least shift a little but i think most haven’t even read it unfortunately and now it’s just same old same old.

vocal hound

i most definitely didn't read it

i didn't read it at all
