#Im Bronze 3, I've been one tricking Renekton but is it worth learning other champs?

top lane is heavily matchup dependent so it could be worth to add some champs to your pool
also to make sure you dont get burnt out from playing the same champ every game...
me and the croc for life
maybe consider adding an AP top laner or a better teamfighter for better drafts
gwen/gangplank?
was thinking about gwen or mordekaiser
both good options see who you like
lol, when i get autofilled, my top three champions toplane are Croc, Malphite, and Irelia
genuinely if u cant climb with croc it might be cooked
id rather play croc than climb
sorry so whats the point in asking for champion suggestions? If youre having fun on the croco and you dont care about climbing then just keep on OTPing. You cant complain about counter matchups and then saying you wont change your champion XD. I mean if youre an OTP, why dont you try being so good as a croc OTP you can win counter match ups skill diffing your enemy?
I'm interested in hearing what you think your unwinnable matchups are
If you haven't other champs or roles in depth, sometimes that's all it takes for a big gain in ranks.
I play Sett and Cho top if I get filled, but I can't truly complain about the matchups if they're bad.
If you get last pick but their top is a counter? It's literally your fault for one tricking and hoping "this time will be different"
some matchups might just be my lack of knowledge, but i really struggle with malphite, poppy, illaoi
theyre not necessarily unwinnable of course but to my bronze brain they do
pretty fair
as an illaoi player i would say at least for the illaoi matchup i think you have a chance if you:
- make sure you always have an e available for escaping especially when her ult is up, and be ready to run even when you have a huge hp lead if your skills aren't up and she's ulting you, it's very hard to dodge tentacles when her ult is running (makes them slap much faster) and she'll probably heal a lot off of you if you commit
- play around her wall tentacles including keeping track of her passive cooldown early, it takes a long time for her wall tentacles to respawn early game especially if you dodge the hook (which spawns tentacles)
- play aggressively early even when she hooks you because her hook isn't that strong yet, and if she misuses her hook (doesn't have tentacles around her or overplays the advantage she has from hooking you (e.g. overstays trying to damage your soul when the hook is ending))
- dodge her hook (obviously)
- have it in your mind how her wall tentacle slaps work (towards your soul if it's been hooked, towards her target when she uses her w minidash attack, and towards you if your soul's been destroyed) to dodge slaps better
- and don't stand in your minions when she's trying to push so she doesn't aoe you with everything
- if she runs grasp, don't let her autoattack minions for free to charge it and w you, and if her grasp is charged early play around your skill cooldowns and position inside your minions so she takes minion damage if she commits on you
but tbh a lot of those tips will help you against illaoi in general even if you start learning an illaoi counter
if you struggle with those 3 champions you could probably try something like mordekaiser, i think he has a good matchup into all 3
but i play none of those 3 (malphite/poppy/mordekaiser) so i won't say anything more
wow thanks thats actually really helpful
its hard to find anything about the matchup itself
happy to help
Oh yeah another point
If her ult isn't running and she doesn't have too many tentacles near you
Try not to commit to too many animations (i.e. your w or autoattacks) when you fight her and her skills are up
The key is to dodge all the tentacle slaps because they're her main damage after level 4 or so and heal her a decent amount too
And the tentacle slaps are mostly dodgeable as long as you're not animation locked
You can still dodge ulted tentacle slaps with e of course, and you can try the skill check of dodging multiple tentacles at once while fighting esp if they're not placed too well
But hopefully you don't put yourself in that situation all the time
u just get shit on by poppy
champ is gigabusted in a counter position
she can win in lane easily and she scales even if she loses lane bc she's a fkn tank
HOWEVER
the best way to deal with tanks is usually by playing around your ult (bc of the magic dmg) and itemizing properly
cleaver into eclipse is good, same for the reverse for certain matchups
malphite lane is atleast playable if you play around your enhanced w and do short trades
all of malphs survivability in lane is tied to his passive shield (his passive w makes his shield increase his armor by a fuckton)
so if u empowered w that, it removes it
and it lets you trade while actually hurting his hp bar
beyond that, just lane manage your way into a freeze and bully the shit out of him if he steps up
morde is a matchup that can go either way
main thing to note is that if ur isolated he usually will just win trades unless ur stupid ahead
his q deals bonus dmg if it hits only a single target- so play in your wave while his q is up
his items are usually entirely hp and health (at least until like dia+)
so building bork is v v v good against him
or eclipse, or both
save ur empowered w for his big shield
he usually gets it once in a fight and that's where most of his survivability comes from, so deleting it is imperative.
aside from that, play for your powerspikes (lvl and item) and you usually win p hard against morde
I don't know what wins if renekton and illaoi press w and run at each other, I imagine the illaoi w will still go through and get a tentacle slap though
ideally get your jgl to gank the morde early so you can secure a lead and then he can't ever kill you in death realm
illaoi w goes off yep
i think if they run at eachother it goes off for sure
but technically it is interruptable
if they're standing on top of eachother (so illaoi doesn't have range advantage)
and they both attack at exact same time
i think renek might cancel
but it's not something you can really react to, just predict
which requires knowing her cds
(which is good to know in general for every champ)
actually one thing that will help you as an aggressive player in every single lane
is cd tracking
if u aren't already
it's a fundamental concept to punish players for wasting certain abilities
illaoi is a golden example of this
if illaoi misses her E (the spirit hook thing) she's like
completely unable to contest wave for the entire cd of it
at least in early levels
illaoi is extremely reliant on hitting it to win fights
