#LP system inconsistencies.

DId everyone go from a positive gain to a negative one in that short time frame?
Again if they changed the LP system then time frame doesn't matter
Everyone would get different before and after
I understand that. But how does it make sense for me to go from +13 to -9 ?
Not everyone has the same rank, MMR, and games played. Therefore, there's no reason to assume it would treat everyone the same
I just think that's kind of a big jump (+13 to -9) when I wasn't even playing for 3 weeks.
It's a big jump to be sure
But again the timeframe doesn't matter, I have no idea why you keep talking about how long. If you play a game on 13.4, and they make a change on 13.5, it doesn't matter how long it is between those two games
I already understood that as I already told you
Why do you keep mentioning it then?
I want to understand what they did that validates this huge jump (+13 to -9)
Without knowing the technicalities it just makes me think I should have played before the change and now I missed out. Kinda demotivating with that huge jump.
If I knew the how's and why's I at least could be humbled a bit and reason with myself to keep at it.
They will never release the technicalities for several reasons, mostly obvious and many mundane
But the long and short of it was that if you are gaining too much LP, it can stick you in an even bigger hole later on
How so?
If the system needs to stay opaque to everybody (which I absolutely hate) I at least want to understand all that surrounds it.
There were some cases where highly positive LP gains early would cause someone to wildly overshoot their MMR and the system would gives them very negative losses to compensate
That makes sense.
The central idea is that they don't want people to try and game the LP/MMR system. The goal is that it works silently, so you get to your desired rank without weird behaviors
The problem is that there are more positive buffers than negative ones, so it's easy to end up way ahead in LP
It doesn't matter much in the end, in the long run your rank will be normalized to match your MMR no matter what your gain/loss looks like for any given game
They don't show MMR directly. Partly because they don't want people to game that system especially, and partly because the ranked grind is supposed to be a slower process
Transparently, they want you to take several games to reach your rank, making it feel like you can push for more and giving players a reason to want to play
LoL Patch 14.4 reduces LP gains below Emerald, gaining and losing 25 LP on average in these ranks. Ranked players would've gained or lost 28 LP before the update.
This is probably the change that put me in "the hole" immediately.
I guess I just have to play until I am out of "the hole" again.
And according to you it does make sense that I would have been put in a way bigger hole if it kept going like it did with the +13.
With +13 it still took a while though for me. I don't play many games in a week.
I just can hope it puts me out of the hole soon and not keep me in it until I drop 3 ranks to silver IV or so.-
