#Why do people keep telling me ori isnt support?

You can play her support but she does far better mid lane. If you are playing normal matches it doesn’t matter.

The reason why is because she lacks many tools a support needs, high base damage on abilities, either hard CC or a heal/shield ability strong enough to make up for lack of hard Crowd control.

Orianna only has her ultimate ability to rely on for peel, and that has a high cooldown. That is not good when you need to consistently keep your adc alive. While you can shield them, you often need more than that, such as an ability like Janna tornado or lulu polymorph.

If your goal is to climb ranked try Janna or soraka.

She just isn't common. She requires a highly skilled player to pilot her. She's extremely good in a poke lane or in a lane where you just need to support a carry. Samira and Nilah work very well with her. Nilah doesn't like enchanter supports though so it will be more of a scaling lane with Nilah going tp and overgrowth + conditioning.

There is an orianna sup player in gm

Most people just dont like playing with it. If you are duo q'ed its a super good pick into a double poke /burst lane - Think Smolder Karma or Draven Naut. You max e as ori support and are able to provide your support with 18 armor/mr and decently sized shields. Some lanes you aren't able to be that useful though so you are more of a better millio and then you have an extremely useful ult if you have a botlaner that has good aoe or just any diver on your team to get you your stacked ult off

#

The only issue with her as support is that her e is not a super low cd and costly so your adc cant take too free of poke

I think my items make up for the lack of support, I always go echoes of helia > t2 boots > knights vow > rod of aegis

Mandate staff and ardent are all very good picks on her with items like redemption and mikaels being good situationally. Locket and Helia requires you to be close to the fights to use so they are more risky since it will effect your positioning but they can be very useful like locket into burst comps. I don't know how helia works this szn but I had played a few games with it last szn and it felt horrible on ori sup

Going tank items just isn't the best though since all ori has later on in the game is resistances and speed ups and a grouping ult so you really want to make more use out of those than make your adc take 10% less dmg which you could have done by giving them bigger shields + faster fights with mroe dmg

Ori is quite gold dependent and support has a limited gold budget which is bad for Ori's gold dependent scaling. Mechanically she works reasonably well in the position but it gimps her mid and late game a lot for putting her there. I've actually had a lot of success playing her bot lane (not the support) though.

She just requires a good hypercarry and atleast 1 diver on the team or she isn't really useful since she needs a good chapm to ult on or else she just becomes a millio with resists instead of dmg

E max is pretty decent, especially since E CD isn't super long, problem is that her base dmg on the rest of her kit is mostly pretty mediocre (W is good w/ ranks now) so she is very dependent on items to produce meaningful dmg and her ratios are actually really strong compared to base dmg (and considering her short CDs). Having her just be a shield bot with shit dmg makes her an inferior version of Janna at that point.
