From what was discussed in their most recent Dev Update:

  1. Rank splits will be moving to 3 splits per season.
  2. Preseason PBE will be releasing around mid-November instead of October and preseason will release official in January.
  3. Mythic Items system will be removed (fucking thank you).
  4. Arena game mode will be coming back around December.
  5. Nexus Blitz is coming back in late-October.
  6. Riot will be testing out the AI for their bots for improments.
  7. Skarner's rework is still on track for next next year.
  8. Jax's visual and audio rework will be revealed sometime around mid to late September.

Overall thoughts from me, I am so fucking happy the Mythic Item system is getting scrapped since it hindered the build creativity that the game had. Nexus Blitz coming back is such a win too, love that game-mode and I hope to see Arena back and improved too. Do share your thoughts here guys.

While I respect the effort they put into making Nexus Blitz into the new aram. The issue is that Nexus Blitz isn't a popular gamemode, evident by this dev blog.

It may be fun for a small subset of players, only a small fraction of the league playerbase are actually playing the game and about 50% of the playerbase will quit the gamemode by a month. When they revive NB, unless they drastically change the core gameplay loop of it, will be even less popular then it's peak. So instead of spending the huge amount of time, resource, and energy to reviving NB they should invest that same resource to more permanent things or work on things that already exist.

Why don’t events have new modes like Odyssey: Extraction? When’s the next Prestige skin schedule? Announcer packs?

I mean imagine if Riot created the next permanent gamemode, stopped making ai generated videos, make more QoL changes, fix their client, buffed Skarner, the possiblities are endless but instead we are going to revive a game that only really lasts for 15 ish days.

I don't mind modes like NB coming back for a time, but what I really miss is the old Dominion mode as a permanent gamemode. It was quite fun and had a decent sized, dedicated portion of the community that played it.

Only rotating game modes that were genuinely good were the Odessey ones (PvE in LoL? yes please) and Arena (which Riot seems to have wisely realized is worthy of being made a permanent mode). What I'm still wondering is: why haven't they brought back Crystal Scar, lots of OG players loved that mode and I think many newer players would enjoy it a lot (it has some of the same appeal that Arena has in terms of being more fighting oriented, but it's also much more strategically complex, maybe not as much as SR, but Crystal Scar was well on it's way to having it's own competitive scene before Riot abruptly killed it.

The only reason why Arena > Urf is because Arena feels like there is a lot more diversity while not feeling that snowbally.

Also the game mode where ults as summ spells is pretty fun imo
