I hear "toxic" thrown around way too much. The other day I was playing ADC and I had a Brand support, he was playing very far back so I typed "brand, can you play a little more aggressive", so he called me a "toxic (insert swear words)" and then left lane and I had to hold the lane 2v1

I am beginning to believe that using the word toxic is more like a defense mechanism against anything that triggers, angers or hurts people. It gives an excuse to disengage with zero responsibility. Or it’s a way of validating or removing yourself from the situation rather than dealing with the problem at hand.

Toxic is a word with a definition of "poisonous, hazardous, etc.." it's used as a metaphor on people who act like little shits in the internet harassing people, bad attitude against people for no or little reason, so if your point is to say that my use of "toxic" is wrong then tell me how's the behaviour of league players like? do you think it's not toxic?, do you think it's reasonable they act this way?.

When someone really does experience a toxic situation it should be seen as a significant problem and not something that people can just brush over. Having toxic people in your life and dealing with real toxic situations is traumatic. And when we throw the word around carelessly, it diminishes that trauma.

The reason why Valorant doesn't have as much of this so-called "toxic" behavior is because players in League of Legends are always trying to micro-manage each other, unlike in Valorant. If you see a teammate split pushing instead of helping teamfight, you might consider that as "throwing the game", but in his head he might be thinking he's trying to win the game

People that throw the word “toxic” around typically use it as a coping mechanism to disregard reality. It’s easier to call someone toxic rather than actually understanding what they are saying and/or improve on what they did wrong. Since most players think they are Faker, clearly they won’t do the latter and will just say toxic instead

riot does punish toxicity. you have to put in effort to get those punishments because riot can't monitor all of the hundreds of thousands of games that happen every day

their automod can't pick up on everything
