On a smurf account I went from Platinum 2 (1LP) then I went AFK and forced two remakes and got demoted to Platinum 3 (75LP), then I won 1 game and got double promoted to Platinum 1 (1LP)

Yes, it works in diamond. I got the idea from a youtube video & the guy does the same method to demote to diamond 3 and then skip to diamond 1
