I've decided to test out this new forums system to chronicle the construction of my latest custom, from Original Kitbash to Conceptualization through all the steps of completion. The process begins with the creative kitbashing, taking parts and mixing them together until I get the general shape down. The total kits used consisted of a MG ZZ Ver Ka, leftover FAZZ parts from a previous kitbash, Chobam from the MG Alex, and a collection of builders parts and left over HG and MG Weapons.
From there, I take it to a photo editing program and test colors until I'm satisfied. It's a good way to experiment with colors before finalizing the design. Here, I made sure to do two tests, one with armor, one without, as I would have to build the the whole base suit first.
From there, with proper paints selected, I did a first layer and painted the entire under armor and over armor, keeping them separate so I could do detail work. One thing to keep in mind is sometimes mistakes can lead to better results. For example, the blue I bought and the blue I had in mind didn't line up, but I fell in love with the nearly black blue that I ended up using. A second example is the shoulders. I accidentally sprayed them blue instead of grey, and decided to keep it.
Then came decals, panel lining, and weathering.
Finally, decaling and weathering the outer armor.
Now, while I work on finishing the rifle, I'll give a bit of a lore dump with this new channel system.
History:
After the prototyping and conceptualization of the MSΖ-010(G) ZZ Gundam Ground Use Type failed following the First Neo Zeon War, the Federation Ground forces pushed for a new "full armor" unit to be deployed in their ongoing battle against the Zeon and Neo Zeon remnant terror cells that plagued Earth. Using left over parts of the FAZZ units acquired from Anaheim, EFF engineers stripped the transformation capability from the ZZ Gundam, aside from the Core Block, and mounted parts of the FAZZ armor on top of the now stronger frame. Once finished, the MSZ-010[G] ΖΖ Gundam Half-Armor was deployed as a part of the Half-Armor project (a ground forces project to provide just enough armor while stripping down thruster output to ground units) to various fields of combat on Earth during the UC 0090s to combat the newly invigorated Reborn Neo Zeon movement on Earth.
Technology:
The MSZ-010[G] ΖΖ Gundam Half-Armor had a slightly more powerful reactor placed in it, thanks to the abundance of space left, than the Enhanced ZZ Gundam. This was combined with the lack of transformation and strong thruster output to provide ample power to the reinforced High Mega Cannon, a second High Mega Cannon mounted onto the crotch, and two Hyper Beam Saber/Cannons on the backpack. It carried over the missile racks from the backpack and chest armor of the FA ZZ, and was deployed with a "FXA-07M6 Hyper Mega Smart Bazooka", specifically prototyped with the machine given its extremely high generator output. While the transformation capability of the ZZ Gundam was stripped, the ability to separate through the use of the retained backpack thrusters and eject the Core Fighter was maintained, allowing for the pilot and all valuable information to escape damage in the unlikely case of immanent destruction. Two subarms were also mounted onto the knees in order to assist with the mounting of the Full Armor parts as well as assist in ground related activities.
