Hey guys for the upcoming wotlk ive decided to just level as assassination so I can learn my rotation and get comfortable with the spec before raiding and such, I can't find any decent daggers to start off with online. Does anyone know where to get them from quest rewards? Or is it best to grab some PvP daggers once the season ends? Just to start off with daggers or does it not matter too much? Thanks

Are you talking 10-80 or 70-80? Combat from 10-70 is super easy and there are tons of blue swords available. At 70 there are the pvp daggers and badge daggers which are both very strong.

Orc is good for due to the abundance of axes in wrath. Troll is great all around as it’s not weapon prof locked to get its racial ability at its peak. Especially considering Sin is “top tier” in phase 1

Combat generally has good standards throughout all the lvling grind. Sin is good once you have your kit post lvl 62

Play what you want but orcs have two racials that help in PvE: Blood Fury and Axe specialization (if combat). Undead only have their pvp racial which is helpful in some instances. I don’t have a source for logs to prove this outside just articles written.

Having a lvl 70 in grp drops your exp by like 2/3 if feels like. A 70 attacking your mob granted me 309 exp Vs 864 when they weren’t. A lvl 70 healer I don’t believe hurts your exp but I could be wrong

Orc for combat I reckon

I would recommend Orc if you plan to switch to Combat in the later patches with Arpen gear @magic summit
Troll do provide you the biggest boost with the 20% racial ability haste but Orc does not fall too far behind for assassination, however, going Orc means you get a not-so-far-behind racial power for assassination in early patches and then when/if you transition into Combat you get an OP attack power boost on racial coupled with axe & fist weapon specialization which gives you even more expertise for the spec (axes are some of the strongest weapons in wotlk) 😉

Depends what content and spec youre using. Usually I see sin use deadly on MH and OH or Instant MH and Deadly OH. But combat usually goes Instant MH and Deadly OH. For sub leveling i like to use wound cause the proc chance is higher.

Been playing sub in classic and every guide i see tells me to spam hemo, but backstab hits so much harder more than makes up for the 750 hemo debuff damage ontop of the bonus 30% crit chance from puncturing wounds

But usually that gets stolen from us by other people in the group or raid so my best guess is backstab would be better for purely single player but in a dungeon/raid setting hemo would help the group more with the debuff... just my opinion on the matter. I don't really play sub

which is only about 950, so yeah, we're under Glyph hemo damage at my current 3k gear score 500 weapon damage

so assuming we use hemo and every stack gets used and we don't clip anything, glyph hemo does more damage than backstab for 10 less energy

but backstab has its own glyph which extends rupture by 2 secs for a max of 6 sec. which means longer ruptures, especially if they're snapshotted, which means more CP for other things like SnD uptime and evicerate

and at this point the math is beyond my paygrade and isn't quantifyable

Which hand has a slow or fast weapon doesn't matter as much with wrath assassination. Mutilate uses dmg from both equally and envenom is based on ap not weapon dmg.

In other words, just put a slow dagger in one hand with instant poison and a fast dagger with deadly in the other. Any other rogue spec requires slow mh fast oh.

Is Parry and Dodge applied to the Hit Table? and therefore one can only roll at a time? and would that decrease your DPS, since parry appear instead of hits?
For an example,

Hey all, I'm reaching out to find someone that is interested in theorycrafting and good with the numbers / math end of things.

As a long time rogue player I wanted to try out something new and so I've been playing as a Sub rogue for Naxx and have been doing even better than I had hoped.

I've tested a few variations of talents that I've worked on with a friend and another rogue in my guild, but I'm getting to the point of wanting to get into the math of things and see if there are any tweaks that could be made to talents, gems, enchants, rotation, etc to squeeze out any more damage.

Final note that I only got engineering in my most recent Naxx/Sarth/Maly run so DPS went up a decent amount from the glove enchant.

You should not obsess over keeping envenom up. It will sometimes drop. Better to get 4 or 5 cp then when your energy reaches 90+ percent use envenom ( with cold blood) followed by x2 mutilates in a row.

You want to use gloves on cooldown. You can try to optimize its usage once after the initial pull usage, but generally you want to have as much usages as possible.

Regarding prepotting. It's not that big/important as you may read on the internet. You letting HFB or SND to fall for 10 seconds will absolutely destroy all your effort of prepotting.
Also, prepotting is not worth on all bosses. For example, my guild was killing Gluth in around 1m10sec. It technically fits the prepot guidelines, but you won't be even attacking the first ~10 seconds in combat. Keep such things in mind.

For the 2nd potion usage itself. It depends on a fight length. On a short fight, you obviously want to fit the potion in the fight. 0n a long fight, you want to use it with the most trinket procs simultaneously.

i just looked at her ignis and she didnt pot at all

prepotting is important and so is potting while you have the most trinket and weap procs up

she garroted in her starter and she shouldnt be stealthing at all in her spec

she should never be casting eviscerate its a waste of dps cause it doesnt ss buffs like rupture does so it does less dmg overall

and killing spree once you get your trink procs at the start gives you huge burst to start off the fight with

so once her mirror procs she should be popping killing spree and then only popping if theres no adds nearby and her mirror is off cd and her rupture isnt going to run out during it

honestly combat is a way harder spec she should learn the fights playing assasination first imo because assasination is a substantially easier spec to learn and play in general. i went from parsing an almost 80 average in assasination in uld to like a 70 average in combat due to the skill gap

I have been leveling a rogue in classic, in a server with a lot of pvp activity. For that reason, I am rushing hemo and getting preparation in the subtlety tree. However, after, I've seem most people doing this leveling build spec into assassination.

Yet, I thought it could be possible to spec into combat instead? And pick up the 5% hit, riposte, and blade flurry.

Any thoughts on this, is it viable, why is it a bad idea? 🙂

on the other hand, undead is very powerful with the racial skill to remove fear, sleep, and more.. so is basically choose whatever you prefer between these two

i play undead, during 1v1 wpvp is very strong and can regen using cannibalism

Hello, I have a question about the Compact Hammer recommended by https://www.hcguides.com/specs/rogue/combat#weapon-progression . It has only 0.3 damage over Blade of Cunning and is a bit slower. Mainly it wouldn't allow me to use backstab which I now use all the time as stealth -> backstab -> gouge -> backstab seeing that it costs 1/4 more than sin strike in energy but does 1.5 damage. Is the Compact Hammer in mainhand really better?

well, also only 0.2 damage over the Craftman's Dagger which is the alternative reward from the quest.

You are thinking of the tbc tallen combat potency. Offhand attacks have a chance to give energy. This isnt in era/vanilla. For sword spec faster offhand (more attacks) can proc more extra attacks (from sword spec tallent). Otherwise the only vanilla concern for fast offhand is poison application

Hey im new to rogue in classic and wanting ot make sure, that as a human using swords/maces, i still pick Weapon expertise, even if im not planning to raid later? all the guides says to, but dont understand why its necessary if i already have +5
On top of that, I did end up picking it first time around, but for some reason, my UI still tells me i only have +5=

From 305-308 you gain .1% hit per point, but cumulatively you go from 85% to 95% on glancing blows (or about 3.33% per point.)
After 308 you no longer gain any glancing blow increase and only .1% hit making weapon skill a pretty inefficient stat after 308

so at max level you can save 1 point and just go 1/2 expertise as human with swords and reach the 308 cap but until then it's useful when fighting mobs higher lvl than you

for all the 4 pieces of the map in Dun Morogh:
Pickpocket the following:

• Trolls
• Troggs
• Leper gnomes
• Dark iron dwarves

Then dig up underneath the bridge near kharanos and ironforge

All other starter zones have similar ways of doing it. You just need 4 different pickpocketable units. It's not a 100% pickpocket chance

For the rune of mutilate go to #1 here and pickpocket the named dwarf in the building. You will get a note to talk to a spoopy ghost dwarf near a boat near the 2 marker.

Rune of Slaughter can be obtained in a chest on top of the inn of Kharanos. It seems there is a level requirement but I'm not sure if it's 10 or 11
