at least to me it feels like trickster is extremely stale now and has lost its luster of big cleave

My suggestion would be:

• Log yourself on WCL, you can then look at the timeline of casts and statistic for the following:
  • How efficient did you use your cooldowns, how good is your uptime?
  • How well did you adjust to the boss fight?
  • Did you get all gcd's in Shadow Dance?
  • Did you do the optimizations correct?
  • Note: If you are not sure, can always do !log or ask in here for encounter specific question.
• Use https://www.lorrgs.io/ as a reference, it shows you how top logs are playing so you can alalyze and mimic that.
• Read the Guides, all of them are good and a perfect starting point.
• Ask questions, it is easy to get stuck on a small detail and people in here are always helpful. Understanding something is usually better than following a strict sequence you learned and allows you to adjust easier to fights.
