i mean, if you have ANY relics for sub it should pull ahead in m+. Assa is obviously doing fine also and outsustains both other specs on really long pulls. Sub tho has the crazy burst AoE, best priority target damage in the game (?) . And seeing that in low and high m+ as well you always pull big, sub outperforms IMO
good relics (3xgutripper and the mastery+avoidance trait) obviously help tho
but if your gear in general is similar to assa, i'd say try going for sub in a few dungeons

I mean I got like 930 ilvl relics on sub but 960 ilvl relics in assa and I don't talk about my stats balance ( and no decent T20 ) I've seen they use 2p 2p

Also don’t panic too much about relic/weapon ilvl. Even with lower ilvl relics, sub probably outperforms assass in m+ unless it’s really high keys/sustain AoE affixes @tepid ridge

You got shoulders and cape legendaries? Use those with 2+2 for sub. Otherwise 4p for assa 😃 and yeah just give both a try, I play both I enjoy both, just suits different circumstances

yeh, advice there is pretty hit or miss in general there, had a discussion with someone who was consistently parsing at 10 about sub, never again
