Just in the first pull, make sure you use ambush out of stealth to apply deathstalkers mark. Playing without a hero talent is gigabad.

Always use 5+ combo point finishers - you garrotte > rupture > garrotte > rupture in that first pull and those ruptures aren’t lasting long enough to do anything.

Only need to apply 5 ruptures (on long lasting targets) for the 5 scent of blood stacks that give Agi - anything more is nice to have / hedging against one of the ruptured targets evaporating

Use garrotte during the indiscriminate carnage window until all mobs have a garrote, or until the window ends. Improved garrotte hits hard and its incredible.

Use shiv after applying garrotes, ruptures and crimson tempest. It’ll be more damage if you press it while the improved garrottes from the IC window are still up.

Indiscriminate Carnage Targetting and Swapping
TLDRMouseovers/Target swapping is optimal on 6 target, or 8+ targets, but not necessarily required

• The 2 Bleeds spread by carnage are smart and will prioritize mobs without the bleed. If everything already has bleeds it'll apply randomly
• You as the character are still casting the bleed against your target like normal, this is why people will sometimes use mouseover macros or swap targets

Swapping targets is situationally better, but can be ignored if you're having difficulties with it. Take 5 mob aoe as an example, your first garrote cast will apply to 3 targets (your target + 2 more). Regardless of if you swap or not, your second cast of garrote will hit your target, and then apply 2 more garrotes, prioritizing the mobs that do not have garrote. In very large aoe pulls (12 or more), a standard opener (garrote-garrote-rupture-rupture-garrote-garrote) will only apply 9 garrotes (3+2+2+2) and 5 ruptures (3+2) if you do not swap, losing you 3 garrotes and a rupture.

It is technically worse, but the situations in which you lose bleeds aren't very common; the lost ruptures/garrotes don't contribute much to your already flooded energy, you don't get additional scent of blood stacks, etc. The loss is purely the extra damage from those bleeds.

Ok I have a heroic nexus king fight and the top of 3 mutilates in my details is no crits at all. 72m overall id assume that’s vicious but why would it be dealing more than the base? I thought it dealt max 70% of base?

yeh, so the big green bar is your main hand vicious venoms

then the physical damage under that is the actual hit from mutilate

then the nature damage under that one is the off hand hit

and then there's a fourth hit not pictured, which is also physical damage

and that's your offhand hit

why is it that the talent cant crit though? and is it considered a poison if mastery boosts it?

well think about it

you mutilate does 100 damage

so vicious would do whatever, lets say 120 damage

so now your mutilate crits, wahoo, 200 damage

vicious does the same % of that, so 240 damage

if vicious could then crit

you would randomly be double dipping crit

and it would do 480

cause you're critting on top of damage that was already crit

it's a residual effect

residual effects are usually very strict on what they work or don't work with in order to avoid double dipping

it's the same thing with like doomblade right

if that could crit, same issues

or sanguine blades

sanguine blades is a similar effect, but it's not buffed by mastery

cause the bleeds that did the damage in the first place, already are buffed by mastery

I get that. just the dropdown could show that it was vicious venoms at the top line instead of 3 muti lines lol. I just know I wouldve understood it better if that was the case.

yeh it's tough to do that though

cause the game doesn't report it as "vicious venoms" damage

the game spits out "mutilate did extra damage"

and so details just reads the combat log and goes "that's mutilate damage, yep"

I mean Im not doing 14s or anything but I do ambush, garote muti rupture shiv deathmark and kingbane into muti spam and envenom

to at least funnel that CT dmg
