Bleed vs Hybrid vs Cleave/FI builds
Broad rules and Section in Guide:

  1. If you have to ask, you should play bleed
  2. If you're not doing +17's or higher (or rookery), you should play bleed

Some general concepts as to why people play different things:

  • Ease of play: Bleed build is simply the easiest to play due to subterfuge/no kingsbane/less need for giant prio targets
  • Boss damage: The cleave/zeross build is mainly for boss damage. Assa single target in keys is pretty bad, and the bosses would not be possible otherwise
  • Specific Dungeons: Rookery as an example is very boss-heavy, especially the last boss, making bleed less ideal.
  • Where the damage is: Bleed spreads out its damage and does great overall due to sudden demise and powerful 3-8 target damage. Hybrid is competitve but doesn't pull ahead until bigger AoE. Cleave is for single target damage and insanely large aoe because of how much caustic and crimson tempest carry aoe damage.

Running out of energy in single target is completely normal, intended design of Assassination. As a burst spec our damage is mainly loaded into Deathmark/Shiv and massive Envenoms through stacking multiple nature damage buffs such as Lingering Darkness, Shiv, Darkest Night, Amplifying Poison, and more. This comes with the natural downside of our damage suffering outside of these windows, in part due to the designed lack of energy slowing us down.

Because of this, there is only one minor (0.3%) min-max with energy, which is pooling 3-4 seconds into an upcoming Kingsbane. Ideally this would put you at around 50-60% energy before you enter your Kingsbane, which is more than enough energy alongside thistle tea. Outside of that, spam Envenom and just accept that you will run out of energy. There is nothing you can do to not run out of energy. Playing around Envenom uptime also is not relevant anymore, as Twist the knife allows for two stacks at a time, which reduces wasted uptime dramatically. Without twist the knife, wasting uptime is unavoidable.

Yeah bro, running out of energy on single-target as Sin Rogue? Totally normal — that’s just how the spec’s built. You’re playing a burst god, not some noodle-spamming builder bot. Your real damage? It’s locked and loaded into Deathmark, Shiv, and those monster Envenoms when you stack up nasty buffs like Lingering Darkness, Darkest Night, Amplifying Poison, and all that juicy nature amp.

But here’s the trade: outside those windows? You're crawling. Energy-starved. That’s intentional. You’re supposed to feel like a Ferrari with no petrol half the time — because when the buffs hit, you go zero to lethal in 1.5 globals.

Now if you’re trying to giga-brain this, there’s one tiny micro-play: 3–4 seconds before Kingsbane, chill a bit. Pool energy till you’re around 50–60%. That’s the sweet spot, especially with Thistle Tea on tap. Otherwise? Dump Envenoms like your life depends on it. You will run out of energy. Embrace it. That’s part of the spec’s identity.

Oh — and don’t waste your brain worrying about Envenom uptime. Twist the Knife lets you stack two, so the uptime thing ain’t even a problem anymore. No Twist? Yeah, you’ll waste uptime no matter what. Accept it, keep blasting, stay deadly.

  • Tuning is nowhere near done and realistically won't be until mid-September; unless you enjoy playing rogue there is no point in you rerolling at this time, we don't bring anything impactful (e.g big aoe stops/party buff) to the group

  • PTR sheets and PTR sims are borderline misinformation with how rapidly things are changing and most sims are not currently updated at this time. Again, this will fix itself as we get deeper into the patch and things solidify, but judging a reroll off of PTR tier lists and random sims or seeing one guy pump super hard on a stream is not indicative of anything.

  • Ease of play: Bleed build is simply the easiest to play due to subterfuge/no kingsbane/less need for giant prio targets
  • Boss damage: The cleave build is mainly for boss damage (note: not prio, there is no significant difference in prio). Assa single target in keys is pretty bad, and some bosses during season 2 were not possible on high keys otherwise. It remains to be seen what push keys in Season 3 will bring in that regard.
  • Specific Dungeons: Rookery as an example is very boss-heavy, especially the last boss, making bleed less ideal. Rookery is not in the rotation in Season 3, and there are a lot of AoE dungeons. Dawnbreaker might be a candidate, but unsure currently.
  • Where the damage is: Bleed spreads out its damage and does great overall due to sudden demise and powerful 3-8 target damage. Hybrid is competitve but doesn't pull ahead outside of low target cleave and higher target AoE.
