okay well the only bosses that matter imo would be the last 3 cause those are the real challenge every tier, and none of those are single target, and all of them have very important execute phases which assassination is very good at, so how are we quantifying that?

the issue is that we use sims to guide us in the right direction on things, like okay we sim 1 target 5 min patchwerk because that's raid boss-ish close enough it'll tell me what's better in average single target and we go from there, gg

if we want to start doing raid-accurate "what is better on gally", "what is better on mug'zee", those fights can be set up and simulated, and that's been done in the past as well, but that has its own downside because the APLs are not in any position to be handling complex fights like that. Sims just aren't advanced enough to plan cooldowns ahead for add spawns correctly every time or account for damage amps and downtime for mechanics and they don't have weightings for execute or aoe or add damage. Simming shit like that would be throwing a recreational swimmer into the olympics. It helps us understand how to swim better for sure, like there's useful data, but dudes gonna drown at the olympics.

So what's the answer? Do we simplify the sim fight to get a good answer about a generalized and generic fight, or do we make a complex fight that gives us a bad answer about a very specific fight? Both options suck ass but simming complex fights not only require more work to optimize, more compute time, and more data analysis, but they're also just not going to cause major swings in what's being suggested. Sure the numbers will go all over the place and maybe assa will be the best spec for X fight. But for players simming themselves they won't give a fuck because it'll still be play the same talents, play the same stats, play the same gear. Maybe you swap cloak A for cloak B and re-gem your gear god forbid but like what is the point? Just to know what spec is best at which fight? We have that already it's called logs, sims don't have to do that
