Ring drops from questline, gems come from FIXED loot sources. They are NOT random. Some come from quests, some come from the island events from the mission table, you can see the known drops of the gems on this guide page. Most are not yet known.
If you know absolutely nothing about anything, read this guide. If you're even too lazy for that, go to island pick up all the quests, do all the quests, do all the table events with special map icons and you're done.
Gems available week one currently:
- Thunderlords Crackling (pretty good, usable)
- Mariner's hallowed (this is a healer gem, terrible)
- Windsingers (this is kinda decent as well)
- Roaring Queens (worse than thunderlords)
The max your ring can be is 642 this week after the questline
Other gems are not yet available. This makes the ring dogshit awful. Sims are updated and you can sim your ring. It will be bad. We don't know when other gems are available yet, because again, we don't know half the drop sources.

The hotfix is now live, and all gems are obtainable from the event Command Map table or the Tortollan Vendor named Taljori behind the Blacksmith.
The ring should be an upgrade in all content if you get the good gems. Reminder that the gems you want are: THESE ARE THE ONLY VIABLE GEMS IN RAID AND M+, EVERYTHING ELSE IS JUST OBJECTIVELY BAD
Fathomdweller's (Obtainable from Command Map)
Legendary Skipper's (Obtainable from Tortollan Vendor "Taljori")```
Note that the Excavation for Stormbringers and Fathomdwellers is bugged currently. You most likely need to complete the excavation many times in order to obtain the gem. Best advice is to keep trying, relog, change to warmode, or avoid pulling the Azerite Monster out of the cave. These methods are uncomfirmed but anecdotally have worked for some players. The best guess atm is that it's a sharding/tag limit issue. Too many players hitting the same boss seems to consistently bug drops.
Number wise the ring **RIGHT NOW** should be around 0.5-1% of an upgrade at current item level for all players in all content. The ring will only get better with time as the item level increases
