fan of knives does minimal damage, it's a combo point generator, not really a "do dmg" button. Caustic splatter let's you splash the damage you do to your priority target, and more specifically we are interested in it because our insane damage buttons are all single target (kingsbane, deathmark). Caustic splatter allows us to make those buttons essentially do aoe dmg
