The moment I heard about IC in Shadowlands, I was super excited about a massive, bursty AoE button that does giga damage. But with all the reductions to the cd, it's gone from a big bursty CD button to something that's a necessity in every single pull. I think the problem for me is that when you have your garrotes/ruptures up, there's very little to do other than spam CT and I'm not a big fan of FoK - CT - FoK - CT gameplay.

Garrote and Rupture are basically buttons that you press a few times between IC casts and completely ignore them for 20s after you slam down an IC Gar/Rup combo and I don't know how I feel about that.

Guys, I have a question. When using echoing reprimand, you get animacharged combopoint(s) . Is it worth it to reach that combopoint slot using fan of knives--- instead of mutilate and missing the slot--- if my doomblade DoT is already on the target? Fan of Knives uses 35 energy instead of 50, does ~ 1100 less damage than mutilate, but gives me the one cp that ensured the execution of an animacharged envenom f.e.

I understand that the oldschool multidotting gameplay doesn't work in modern games, so I'm at a bit of a loss. I think IC is a great addition, but I would want something to press after IC instead of spamming 2 buttons over and over for 15s straight.

Subtlety had a similar issue with Shuriken Storm - Black Powder spam when it was first introduced in Shadowlands, but I think it's gotten so much better with the introduction of Danse Macabre, big Ruptures and buffed up Secret Technique. It's still heavy on the BP, but you're encouraged to press other buttons as well to get most out of the spec.

We've never really had an AoE spender as Assassination other than CT but CT has always been the dot that you maintain, not something you want to spam. CT is a difficult one to get right because the maintenance part of it is great, but it can't be too strong so it doesn't get into CT spam category or CT in Single Target which a lot of people don't like (which I'm personally indifferent to)

also IC limits the spec so much. the feeling that having to wait until the mobs are pulled and stacked before you can start attacking is so awful. starting a pull without ic means you tickle the mobs. doing an ic late into the pull many times means you get low value out of it cause the mobs die before ruptures get close to expiring and then you start next pull without it again and its a never ending cylcle of feeling dissapointed. if you use it mid-pull it doesnt even feel like a cd since it doesnt spike your dps either

Well, while your anima charged combo points are active, I just try to force it if possible, but yes, after echoing is over, you will use muti to 6. I don't really see how forcing it with a cp finisher, does not save energy because your next 0 -> 6 cp is built using mutilates. You still end up saving 15 energy because you finished earlier using FoK.

I think you did a good job of explaining the thought process.

So essentially your point does make logical sense, you would probably save 15 energy by forcing the anima charged cp, but in modern wow the big thing is globals more-so than energy. Essentially you're trying to get as much damage per global. A better, albeit more confusing for most, way to look at the rotation would be through DPET (Damage Per Execute Time, which factors in the GCD of pressing the ability). While you may save 15 energy forcing that anima charged finisher, you're losing DPET by using an inefficient builder to get there

It sounds like you're thinking about it as only single chance to consume them. like in the scenario where you have 2s left on ER window. and you only get 2 more globals. then maybe FoK is slightly more efficient by like a few hundred dmg or something. but in 99.9% of scenarios. mutilating doesn't lose you that Charged CP, it just delays it. so no damage is lost. and the argument becomes, "should I FoK over mutilate because it's more energy efficient" which we know is "no"

On top of that every mutilate has a chance to proc blindside which gives us a free ambush cast. Also envenom damage is doing fine, because like I stated above it's very very very rare that you won't get at least 2 of the 3 anima charged CP

I think you're super overestimating the effect of 1 combo point here. The combo point damage gain is linear, so the flat damage difference between 5 and 6 cp is the same as 6 and 7. That being said, the relative increase is actually decreasing, a 2cp envenom does double the damage of a 1cp envenom, but because it's linear, you would need a 12cp envenom to double a 6cp envenoms damage. 6->7 or even 5->7 just isn't anything impressive. In fact, most of the gain you get from echoing most of the time ends up being the fact that you just get straight up more casts of envenom because you saved gcds that you would've spent using a generator. Like a 3cp empowerment gives you technically 4 combo points of bonus, but you also saved the saved the effort of mutilating in the first place. So trying to force a generator in as an extra gcd, in order to hit the combo point that saves you a gcd normally just doesn't add up. At that point, you can just to a raw DPET like oxi pointed out and compare damage to damage since the gcd and the combo points are being used either way. And that's then when things like throw dagger get actually obliterated. Whats worse is that its also difficult to factor in the concept that you just legit get another shot at it. If I miss a combo point cause my mutilate crit too much, I just finish and mutilate again. At no point in that loop are you introducing inferior gcds into the mix, because there's a chance you hit on the next one, and the chance is fairly high. So instead of trying to force a bad gcd to get the animacharge IN THAT MOMENT, you could just take the loss and try again on the next build/spend

Unless something hard changes at lv70, buffed shiv would be doing more than 3x muti dmg... ofc if muti dmg is just a tiny component of our dps, then it's not so good, but wouldn't the same apply to blindside? Just going by the numbers i see ingame, help me see things because I'm probably unaware of other passives and such that amplify other sources of dmg and make shiv shit

It's a free builder - > no energy wasted -> more envenoms
