A lot of their pruning as they stated was to reduce complexity because add-ons could no longer assist you as much in your gameplay

I have mixed feelings. on that. I have tried about 5 different specs during this prepatch that suddenly seem way more approachable. does that mean they'll get boring faster? maybe. I know my main spec felt terrible because it was so simplified (feral) but in real content once i got the new muscle memory it wasn't really that much of a different experience than before
if crackshot was the reason you played wow, then even if they fix the interface you might be out of luck, but as someone who just plays outlaw on the side, i do appreciate the RTB changes

It would only do the very specific things which blizzard has allowed of course, so a lot of things just wouldn't work.
For combat/in a key/raid encounter there's still a lot of "dummy" auras you can end up creating since it is fair game to see when a given ability is used. So you just basically create a timer which starts when an ability, like dwarf racial for example, is used to see its cooldown. And out of combat is far less restricted ofc.

Yeah I think people should see that trend as ominous imo. If all the people who main a spec are complaining and the people who are viewing a spec for the first time seem mostly happy, its probably reasonable to worry that after a season or two of knowing a spec you will also start to share the sentiment of the other "mains" that no longer like their spec
