I'd argue the gearing system and what to focus on at max level is the largest hurdle. Just playing the game is still pretty easy to get into, albeit with too many noob traps I agree. But if you ding fresh max level it's very overwhelming, not even considering your "rotation". I've had friends just quit because it's too much
