What im seeing when i look at the mog you linked, are two different mogs/ideas. The red and white mog and the idea of the mantle of master assassin/blackweave. The red mog is a good starting point, the only thing i dont really like is the flow between your chest piece and the legs. Other than that its a good starting point for a red/white mog.

Stop looking at the past for recolours and only use the past as inspiration not as a concept. The new design team/member need to create their own stuff and add their own style to the game, that's the only way forward. The sooner the better.

some time a recolor for nostalgia Im ok with but Id prefer totally new stuff. Im very happy with new tiersets in 9.2 although Im not a big fan of their style.
at least the rogue set looks decent:)

ADVICE:
Considering you took 1 item that has such an obvious look (the shoulders), it doesn't look bad at all imo. The only thing I would personally change is the lack of brown. When I look at the shoulders (in a brighter area) I notice the browns in the shoulders. These browns match the SoD normal gear pretty well. However, just using these legs will kind of stop the flow from chest to legs. So I'd change the belt as well into something that has the same dark blue colour as the chest and gloves, so I added the frostwolf belt. Most improvement in the mog can be made in the leg/waist area imo. What I did is just an example. I like the fact that you used the dashing scoundrel chest since it helps a bit with the floating shoulder problem nightbornes have. Gloves from the set are also a solid choice. Like you said, going in the right direction but still a few roadbumps to clear 👍

me too but I made an exception on bod mythic set.
already had shoulders and boots from jaina only mount runs so only 6 remaining of which I could buy the boe belt from the AH.
set looks too special to wait 1-2 years longer.

This is something similar to what I have. Gravethorn Hood + Waycrest Guard Cloak are BIS Combo 🙂 I know you're anti shoulder but the "one strap" leather ones are pretty good. Belt you can go with whatever flavor you want.
