Shadowlands had sky high player participation. It was a new expansion AND it happened to coincide with the Covid lock downs since it came out in November 2020. Everyone was quarantined, laid off, furloughed, etc. So a ton more people were playing video games like WoW. High participation drives rating inflation. And when glad is 50 wins above 2400 its naturally way easier when the season is super inflated because that makes the actual rating of 2400 lower relative to the whole ladder.
