I've done a lot of reasearch on the above, but no definitive answers. How do you get Catalyst? What is the point of Heraldry for upgrading gear to 289 (what gear is it applicable to?), if pvp conq gear is already 289? Rolling sub rogue and having fun, but dont want to waste resources on the wrong gear/upgrades.

crafted gear increases in ilvl based on the rank of the Heraldries you use. The green ones are 263. The blue ones are 276 (same as honor gear) and the purple ones are 289 (max level, same as conquest gear).

Green ones are free from pvp chests you sometimes get after winning games and can be bought on the AH for gold. Blue ones can be bought for honor. Purple ones can be bought for conquest
