There's no real answer for this.
It all depends on where you are.
If you are really really new to pvp, that hardly knows the basics, at least get big debuff addon. You will start to hit PvP dummies, you build some muscle memory on what to do, cc & dmg.
Then I will start with regular BG, at least you start to know what you doing in general, by that I mean at least you are not panicing when anyone comes
Above is like PvP 101.
Once you know the basic basic, you will try to start real pvp.
The best start would be 2s with a healer, this actually helps you to build awareness, when to offense, when can land on a kill, when to defend. But it basically requires a healer coach with extreme patience, it doesn't come that easy, you would need really good social skills, or you simply pay.
Or, you would start with SS/Blitz, in that mode you are on yourself anyway, you can learn from low MMRs anyway...
But overall, I think PvP101 is very important, you will want to feel very confident in regular BGs before you enter arena, imo

Deathstalker mark mostly your big damage increase is when you spend it. For me that has been hitting anywhere from 400k-500k so that if I read correctly will be increased by the tier set. I am not sure if it applies to Darkest night though. The other stuff I dont think is worth mentioning

Having your step cooldown reduced when spending a deathstalker mark is something I will have a hard time living without though its 3 sec per mark spent and after watching replays it has helped me live by stepping to a healer to los or land kills

With Whispyr's video showing that you can proc caustic with amp poison too not just deadly. This opens up an aoe envenom build that uses caustic to spew damage instead or even in addition to CT
