@surreal barn idk man, I would argue that "button mashing zug-zug" works even less effectively with Assassination than it does with Outlaw

Outlaw's button rotation is a bit faster and a bit harder than Sin's, but timing is a lot more important for Assassination and your mistakes are punished much more harshly than they are in the other two specs

You can definitely zug to 1800 with Outlaw, you definitely cannot zug to 1800 with Assassination

And assassination will get focused almost every single game because everyone knows the spec is so fragile

I would argue that the PvP playstyle of Outlaw is WAY more intuitive for a PvE player familiar with rogue than the other two specs

Outlaw is literally just, essentially, do your dungeon rotation and Kidney when it's up and you'll do OK

Assassination you've got to repeatedly try to reset, restealth, it is not in any way similar to playing rogue in PvE content, other than you try to manage your bleeds as best you can, but you're not gonna outlast anyone through dampening by just Fan+Rupture span, if you do this, you will absolutely get focused and die

Also, scoring kills as Assassination is not really intuitive either. You aren't realistically going to overwhelm people with damage like DH or Ret can, you need to set up a bunch of powerful bleeds, then chain CC the healer during your go

The only time killing someone as assassination is "easy" is when your teammate did 90% of the DPS work, the enemy is at 10%, and you just press Dance + Kingsbane

Otherwise you are just not killing people as this spec. Like in the 1400s, sure, but above 1600, there are so many multigladiators / people that know how to PvP so much better than the average PvE player.

I hit the wall of my life when I got to around 1600, and I am definitely an above average rogue player who just hasn't really played since WOTLK until Shadowlands, and this was my first season since WOTLK trying to push in PvP. I found assassination super non-intuitive and super frustrating until I started watching Shadenox's videos and seeing that, specifically, you CAN'T zug and expect to live with this spec, you need to apply bleeds and reset

And yet at the same time, you don't want to spend so much time running away / in stealth that your teammates just get 3v2'ed and die

Outlaw? Just do your rotation and have fun. Lol

I'm still at 1942, haven't played in at least a week, might try to get a few games tonight, but I'm sure I'll be super rusty 😟

(Just my 0.02, I'm sure people have managed to just Fan+Rupture and hit 1800. I cannot imagine this happening given the quality of my opponents at the 1700+ range, but YMMV)

New people also need a lot of macros in order to play subtlety at the starting level since it has a monstrous amount of button bloat

Sub is also extremely reliant on Smoke Bomb and Shadowy Duel to secure kills, neither of which are intuitive for new players to use at all

I may very well be completely off base with this, but I think Outlaw, as high APM as it is, is the way to go for new rogues

TLDR - Maintain dots on multiple targets (garrote, rupture), that will apply a lot of pressure to the enemy team because, even if you cant just pop CDs and oneshot someone in a global or two, melting the enemy team is extremely scary. The big counterpart of this simple gameplay is that you're extremely squishy and only have 1 vanish.

But, say, the 3500 MMR in Solo Shuffle from S1 was a 2200 when S2 started. The 2800 MMR in 3s from last season was 2050-2100 when it started, etc etc

It's not like, everyone back to 1500 but they do soft reset in a way that still attempts to keep skill levels apart from each other, only they are really close so a player who does a winstreak from 1k8 first week will randomly face people who were rank 10 ladder last season and do their first games

shuffle mostly, yeah. twos is a bit easier (1400, the roles are relatively straightforward). sometimes random bgs but those are just for fun.
