#The game shouldn´t have become less "grindy".

Title...

I´ve read that the game changed and got less grindy with achievements and unlocks.
But tbh... there is no real replay-ability without it.

  • Unlocks are too fast done in general.

  • Characters are super fast unlocked.

  • The 1-4 Tiers on skills are pointless since stardust is a non-issue and just thrown in there to get max tier asap on top tier skills.

  • And well... the game is too easy to get some fun out of looping or longer plays than necessary. Nothing changes at any time, only hunters or Primus might be able to kill you if you don´t run sick barriers or the hunter-gem.
The hunters themselves aren´t even an issue, just the perma-aoe´s....

It´s a bit sad to see that the game starts so well but becomes stale and repetitive pretty fast (in comparison to similar games like RoR or Gunfire Reborn).

I also doubt that JUST a higher difficulty will change that since the maps are super small and no real suprise awaits somewhere.

All the super cool and exciting goals / unlocks are already a thing within 10h of gameplay. The rest is just "more of the same" to get the 100% done, while the build-possibilities sadly lack some balance to get some fun out of it.

The game on release got about 800 negative reviews, most of which are because of the grindy feature of the game.

Keep in mind players do not have all the time in the world to play this game as they have other irl duties they need to do.

The devs immediately buffed stardust and XP gain as response on the SAME day.
They then buffed it again one more time the day after and on September 17 (5 days after) they buffed stardust gain again.

#

So no, I heavily disagree with the game needing to be more grindy*

#

those 840 negative reviews at launch has stopped this game from getting overwhelmingly positive

#

I also held back on reviewing the game at launch as I know this game will be getting patches and did my review after the 3 stardust and XP buffs that they did

#

What we need is more opportunities to spend stardust on and traveler XP above level 35 to unlock more features which can then be bought with stardust to further strengthen your traveler or have more interesting things to look forward to.

I will disagree with you.
Game's reviews been bombed mostly by Chinese players.
Yes, game's grindiness made a hit to reviews, but it wasn't that bad.
If you look at the most popular at game's release, you will notice there are not a lot of players talking about grind.
Though devs cooparated and gave us more ways go get stardusts, which was cool, BUT when they have added stardusts for upgrading your character's level — it's just too much.
Game should have stay with it's first day patch in terms of stardusts.
In RoR2 you have to unlock characters/their skills for 100+ hours and it's not boring.
So yep, I think stardust rewards were pretty okay and review bombing wasn't caused by that

they are mostly negative

#

and all mention the tedious grind

#

if you look at the reviews now its overwhelmingly positive

#

Just because games have the tag "roguelike" doesn't mean that players should grind 100 of hours to unlock mostly everything

notice how i said reviews NOW?

:3

#

and why must we exclude chinese players anyways

#

are they not players that make up part of SoD playerbase?

What is the point of forcing the player to play longer to unlock things rather than simply providing an interesting game they want to keep playing

#

If there was a narrative point to it or something along those lines I'd understand, but just arbitrarily saying you have to do 3x the runs as you do now to unlock X upgrade sounds really annoying

This game is not an MMO or a microtransaction cesspool, there is ZERO reason to needlessly force the player to grind other than to pad out time played. As others have said, people have lives outside of the game and appreciate when developers respect people's time. The trade off making the game significantly less grindy is offering the player the chance to master the game how they want. I stopped playing Dead Cells after like 30 hours because I got so sick and tired of everything taking forever to unlock that I couldn't enjoy the game itself if I wasn't making slowass progress.

Also, you're complaining about unlocking everything makes the endgame trivial. Know what you can do? Not equip them. Pretty sure you can also reset what you've spent if you only want level 1's on everything.

Always love such phrases like:

"Respect the players time...."

Maybe you should respect your own time and stop gaming then? Jesus...

You don´t have to agree with statement, but that doesn´t mean that i´m wrong or anything else.
The gameplay is highly repetitive and not challenging at all. Put that super fast progression on top and you know the game won´t offer any decent replayability, which is a shame for a roguelike.

The game took a lot of RoR obviously, yet i lacks the difficulty, ongoing progression and secret features. Heck, you can´t even play to unlock a dumb skin or so.

Think whatever you want.

You´re one of those guys obviously, yet you insta-comment here when i haven´t even replied to your stuff above.

Funny though, how you waste your time like that but devs should respect it! Always makes me laugh.

Welcome on ignore i guess.

you however

youd prefer other people not enjoy because they dont want to sink as much time as you do

Damn dude. If you don't want people you're not directly talking to responding to you, don't talk on a public platform.

The game DOES offer permanent unlocks even after all the stardust we get each run with traveler memories and I'm still unlocking perks (that I don't use) with stardust.

But from the sounds of it, you might not be genuine with your responses since you're being extremely aggressive when no one else is, seemingly just because most disagree with you.

I like it being less grindy. The game is fun just as is. Getting new toys just makes the early playing of the game more fun. Later in the game focus on other ways of trying to unique builds that aren't optimal or janky interactions you wouldn't do in your optimized run. That's all more achievable with less grind. More grind supports playing the game the exact same way over and over again for maximizing unlocks.

I'm just saying its balanced enough right now I'm straight up buying the game for friends because I know them and I know they'll enjoy it. They end up playing in their free time lol I've borderline rammed the needle into the arms of two of my friends so far.
