when playing as bismuth getting this curse means dropping or selling all your memories (self cast perk)
i just find it frustrating ending a near perfekt run because i just die
atleast make it stop at 1hp so it would be a challenge

I think that curse is a bit of an issue in general because in cases where you have e.g. paranoia slotted somewhere with no blank memory slots, you might be put in a situation where you need to drop/salvage it if you get the curse or be stuck in a permanent damage loop

It's a curse. It's supposed to be annoying/break you

#

Don't take curses if you don't like them

With paranoia, I don't really see an issue with dropping essence at the start of the area every time.

If there was no risk, they would just be free power

With Bismuth, if you have an auto cast build at the moment, I don't really think you should take potent or intense curses. Coop or not.

for sure there should be a negative effect on the curse but it can be a problem if it just destroys a certain build with minimal/no counterplay. It should just be an added restriction to play around, not you gambling your whole run away 😛

e.g. if you're playing shell or any mobile melee really and get the anchor thing where you can't move out of the ring or you take damage, it will be tough but in most cases not completely impossible to avoid

Some of the intense curses are insanely compromising or at the very least annoying.

#

But the reason why is usually because they mess you up from a gameplay perspective.

#

So with that in mind, if your character is fulfilling a certain niche, it's probably just never worth the chance.

true I also found that the curses often strongly target niches and not much outside them, for example the one that makes damage bypass barrier does nothing if you have no barrier or armor but is devastating if you rely on it

Like a mechanically intensive character with inverted controls ain't it unless you're just...I dunno...built different?

white gorge
#

of course there's generic ones like more damage, stun on hit etc

right, inverted controls is another one that I dislike purely because it feels like sabotaging your tools instead of giving you a new problem to solve with those tools

or having memories periodically locked or restricted somehow can also be interpreted as such though in these cases at least we can compensate with our other tools (basic attack or use more impactful memories asap) whereas reverse controls isn't something you can compensate

Yeah, I'm personally not a fan of it. On ranged characters it's salvageable. On melee characters that are not tanky or sustain heavy, it's just all bad.

#

I feel like it should only invert your aim or your movement and not both. But then it may not be intense enough...so who knows.

white gorge
#

honestly it feels more like a contender for a chaos lucid dream

#

slap it on and do a drinking game with your friends using it

But yeah I never take curses. It's just never worth the hassle to me. Curses are for gamba. They are ways to end your run. They're just not worth using unless you're super early game or you're really weak and need a boost

There are times where you take a potent curse and get a random rare memory.

#

You can get some money and shards from it as well. But, yeah...agreed.
