This is how it works:

The player drops the item on the ground. The item is on the ground.

The player turns on the vpn, disconnecting them from the games servers.

While they are disconnected, they pick back up the item. The item is now in the players hand.

Then they turn off the vpn and they recconnect to the game servers.

The item is still in there hand, but there is a duplicate of the item in front of them from before they turned on the vpn and disconnected

This is why the economy is messed up, because people are duping loot instead of exploring and collecting it, making people extremely rich and items basicly worthless

To also add on this works because the item is in 2 servers at once which breaks the game and dupes.

Vpn duping cannot be fixed. The only way to fix it is to either disable vpns (which might be illegal) or make disconnecting instant. Because when your wifi acts up and you disconnect, there is a brief moment where you are in the game and it tries to reconnect you when thats happening. But if it can't reconnect then you get sent to the disconnected realm. But while everything is frozen, im that brief moment... you're in another server. Connected to your original one. And when in there, everything is copied. A way to explain vpn duping simpler is when you get sent to the void stash, there is bombs there. And you can bring this back. So that other server you're in with everything frozen is like that. And if you can reconnect then it brings the stuff back. If there are any further questions, dm me. And I will set something up to explain everything better.

I heard they no longer allow you to join game with VPN which is not quite smart

Can't they just do it like if you disconnect you just disconnect/go to another code
