This is an idea that is in a lot of similar horror games, but would still be applicable here. Above doorways, in hallways and in dark rooms, the turrets would have lasers/spotlights. If a player comes in contact with said laser/spotlight, the turret would start blasting away. Every shot would light up the room.
Objects and even other monsters also can interact with these lasers, so to bait out the turrets you can throw stuff at their sight, giving a distraction.
Turrets could be hanging on roofs, floors, walls and near about anywhere. They can be destroyed via melee but because its metal it would take 10+ hits.
Another idea is that there is lasers that once triggered, turns on ALL turrets, turning whatever unfortunate thing touches said laser into mush. Sort of a mission impossible laser esq room that once a laser is touched everything dies inside.
There would also be variants such as:
Blue turret: explosives/grenades
Black turret: normal turret that shoots bullets
Red turret: locks/closes all exits temporarily upon contact with its laser/sight
Green turret: Alarms all turrets in the area, essentially every turret in the room starts blasting at whatever the first turret saw.
Yellow turret: Alarms all MONSTERS in the vicinity.

(This takes some very little inspiration from the lethal company turret but i put my own little spin on it.)
