If you've played Pikmin 2, you know what dweevils are (pictures for reference). These are essentially those.
Scrap Snatchers are little spider bug like things that pick up scrap and sit idle to disguise themselves. If you get too close or try to pick up the scrap they've set on their backs, they get up and try and run away. If you continue to try and take the scrap, it'll send out a burst of something like poisonous gas. The only way to get the scrap off it's back is to either shoot it with a crossbow a few times, or hit it with a crowbar a few times. However, this only knocks the scrap off it's back and doesn't damage the snatcher, so you'll have to kill it separately. Using a grenade, trip mine, or shotgun will kill both the snatcher and get the scrap.
