What is Life Hacker?

Well, for one, it's a cringey placeholder name. But besides that, it's a top-down RPG where you need to break the world to save the world.
Inspired by games like Undertale/Deltarune, OneShot, and Paper Mario 64, it blends story-driven adventure, combat, and meta gameplay with world-altering tools.

What's the story?

Two close friends (one of whom you play as) discover an ancient artifact that grants them access to developer tools, revealing the truth that their world is a video game.
One friend becomes obsessed with this revelation, and he wants out. Even if it means destroying everything.
The other just wants to help... but that mission becomes more complicated when he ends up needing to fight fire with fire.

What's the gameplay like?

The gameplay will consist of exploration, environmental puzzle-solving using the Editor, teaming up with all sorts of characters, and facing off against enemies in reactive, turn-based battles.
Beyond traditional actions, you’ll unlock Editor tools, such as "Move" and "Properties," that let you manipulate the world and even influence combat in creative ways.

When will it come out?

No clue lol. I am hoping to make a decently-sized demo for Kickstarter to gain funding, but that will probably be a very long time. I am making a small itch.io demo to help gain feedback and grow my audience though, it will likely come out in a month or two if all goes well.

...may I see it?

I will post updates here, but I also have a dedicated server if you're so inclined.

WorldWare perhaps, due to it’s themes?

Huh?

#

Oh for the title?

👍

lime shard

Hm.. maybe. it sounds kinda close to warioware tho so idk lmao

The syllable difference could help but perhaps

Tho i also haven’t been particularly fond of any alternate title I’ve come up with or heard thus far lol. I think i get decision paralysis when it comes to something as important as the title

just tried testing my game on my sisters macbook and it seems to be working smoothly 🙌

yo im trying to improve the UI in my game's edit mode so it feels clearer to players that they can move the camera themselves.

rn the current system are those two glyphs in the bottom middle, where you have to hover over them to get the control hint for how to move the camera. (which rn is Spacebar + move mouse, or hold C and use arrow keys, or the controller's right stick). The glyph of mountains to the right of the camera glyph is the direction in which the camera moves if you push up or down. Ground mode means forward/backward, and air mode means up and down.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

tried updating the UI to show movement arrows on the camera in free-pan mode, and to show a different glyph when in "tracking an object" mode. It also moves with any camera movement whatsoever instead of just player-driven camera movement.

@lime shard Hey! Sorry for the random ping, I noticed that you've been using PR #116424. Bastiaan recommended I leave a comment on the github mentioning my use case and any issues to help nudge it toward getting merged. Perhaps you could leave a comment as well to show that people are interested in the PR. Your game looks awesome BTW!

I’ll have to double check which one I’m using but I can def do that when I have a moment

Actually I've been using this PR, but it has since been closed in favor of the one you mentioned. I'm planning to wait until any implementation of the feature gets merged and published before I jump ship from this PR.

https://github.com/godotengine/godot/pull/103553#issuecomment-3963641147

GitHub

Partially Implement godotengine/godot-proposals#2713, godotengine/godot-proposals#11436
Effectively allows the user to override the aspect ratio.
Example usage:
extends Camera3D

func _ready() -&am...

Also, it seems like 116424 is more or less approved for merging into Godot 4.8 and not 4.7 now.

🤷‍♂️

#

idk i just dont feel like recompiling the engine on the new PR again

#

I don't really have a need to jump ship yet

# lime shard I suppose maybe I could attach a quick recording of my game in action and show t...

Heck yeah! I'm making a little video right now to showcase what custom projections can offer.

The RenderingServer function is almost exactly the same as the PR you are on. This is how I handle it in my game.

RenderingServer.camera_set_projections(camera_rid, [Projection.create_frustum(left, right, bottom, top, z_near, z_far)])

I'm surprised you haven't had any shader issues on that old PR you are on..

lime shard
#

I mean I mightve, it has been a while since I jumped ship to this version

#

The only issue I recall having was some weird object clipping for a while but then I realized its because I had accidentally copy and pasted the object in the same place without realizing it

#

Then again I'm also not doing anything crazy with shaders, its my first time using Godot

adding live-updating "partial occupancy" highlights that are done when the object scales (ignore my crap laptop recording lol)

Ooh wait this is a tactical RPG looks yummy

#

Oh wait thats over world gameplay

lime shard
#

its more of an action RPG akin to like Mario & Luigi/Paper Mario

#

but the editor mode has some tactical-RPG top-down flavor ya

#

added a new animation to the editor toolbar for the transition into editor mode. hoping itll make the presence of the editor toolbar more noticable, since a lot of people who playtested this didn't even notice the editor bar at first.

i want to replace the voice beeps i did for the main characters but I dont know how else to do them other than recording them myself, and I dont like hearing my own voice coming from them lol, it doesnt give me that feeling of "that's the character" its just giving "that's me saying vowels into a microphone"
