This is the Engine Menu from the game.

Every time you level up you get to choose a new part to add to the engine grid.

Parts can be weapons, ship boosts, or effectors that weld to weapons.

This is a Long Cannon, one of the up-gradable weapons in Cloudbreaker.

It's a directional weapon, so it's orientation in your inventory changes its firing direction.

Here's a first tier upgrade, the Gauss Cannon. It's bullets damage increases for each enemy they pass through:

Multipliers!

Pretty self explanatory, they give you more of your weapon.

They're an effector type though, so once you weld them to a weapon they are stuck to it.

it is 🙂

So the idea is that the surface of the planet has become too toxic to live on because of Bioengineering experiments, and people have had to retreat further and further into the sky through the ages. At this point the idea of the surface is just legend.

The player is kind of a relic hunter, diving down looking for useful ancient tech to help maintain the survivors.

You also collect Bloil(XP) from enemy creatures as their blood has mutated from the surface biotech experiments and is now lighter than air.

And, depending on how bleak your storytelling is: could be more reflected in the map. Waste and Abyss don't look too toxic so far. Could be more tentacles, brainy stuff and such. And the cloud between Waste and Abyss might pick from the color palette of your Steam header.

That's true - the clouds could also get darker/ more corrupted as you go down

Also I had an idea that the clouds at the bottom of the abyss could be dense enough to push your ship back, That way it makes sense why the abyss is the bottom layer.

I think at the bottom of the Abyss there should be something large and dangerous enough it's impossible to survive there.
