i've made a new platform for my character to jump on, it has the same node layout and it's set to the same layer value and mask as the other platforms i've made, but my character just falls right through

so your platform is currently a area2d, meaning the collisionshape2d is actually setting the area of the area2d

it should be a staticbody2d instead to collide with your characterbody
