To anyone reading this, it’s time to address the elephant in the room: when it comes to collaborations, Sega is completely tuning out its own community.
For years, fans have been incredibly vocal about the crossovers we actually want to see. We’ve practically handed Sega a goldmine of brilliant ideas on a silver platter—franchises that share the same energy, style, and attitude as Sonic. Instead of listening, what do we get? A Popeye the Sailor collaboration.
This isn't just a disappointing choice; it’s a symptom of a much bigger issue. It proves that the feedback from the people who actually play the games, buy the merch, and keep this franchise alive is being completely ignored in favor of out-of-touch corporate decisions.
Consider this a warning and a reality check: if a company stops listening to its core fanbase, it loses its connection to them. We are tired of asking for gold and being given something completely irrelevant. It's time for Sega to stop choosing the easy, bizarre route and finally start listening to the community that made Sonic a global icon.

If you look around our Discord server, you’ll see we have several channels dedicated entirely to suggestions. These channels are packed with fantastic ideas, concept art, and incredible collaboration proposals made by the community itself—and honestly, these ideas have been sitting there for way longer than this new partnership we just received.
I get that some people feel a wave of nostalgia for Popeye, but let’s be realist: ignoring a mountain of brilliant feedback from the actual fans just to focus on something totally random is turning into pure bad marketing.
This isn't just a questionable design choice; it's proof that our efforts to suggest and engage are being pushed aside for out-of-touch corporate decisions. If we have channels dedicated to helping the game grow with what the fans actually love, why does the company keep looking in the wrong direction?

also, people have been begging them to get rid of fomo for ages, since it does absolutely nothing for the game. all passes content should be added to the stores for rings and rsr within 1-2 months max. also, skin prices are still insane. and there's not enough rsr for f2p players either

i mean, this game is all about cosmetics first, not pvp lol. what's even the point if we can't buy what we want just because it vanishes after the pass ends?

I don't envy David's position. I've personally also been on the same side of having to be the face for people who were woefully mismanaging things are refusing to listen to the community voice. It's probably quite frustrating.

Yea no I'm not vibing with this thread, because "the fans" here are mostly ppl in their 20s-40s. We have different taste in crossover medias than what the devs are looking.

They are going to have crossovers that the ppl here like, and crossovers that ppl here don't

Also, devs have done quite a lot in adding Sonic characters and buddies

The problem is that before this collaboration, we had already asked for something better.

I mean, it's not just here. It's on all platforms that the Popeye reception is... room temperature at best. And colder than that at worst.
Not that I personally care; I just don't pay into it.

I know that, but we have two characters that it wouldn't be so difficult to request from other companies, considering that Pac-Man and Mega Man are from the 40s and are also almost cousins of Sonic, keeping that in mind.

Smurfs there was at least the argument that they're actually very popular in the east (especially Belgium where they originate from), but this strategy of trying to bring in extremely young children with such crossover media and hoping they have $40 USD to spend a pop per skin is a good one.

Especially when Regional Pricing is not a thing, so it's a lot more than $40 USD in most cases.

I guess Sonic Rumble is the first media where you can shoot Carebears with a gun. So I guess there's that.
