I will tell you why this happens to AFK players. Once a new mode arrives the Ring Survival option automatically changes to the "Special Mode" option

So if people are AFK playing automatically they will become part of these modes

I don't believe AFK players in Ring Survival Mode pose any harm to those who are playing seriously.
If we're talking about the fairness of the rival or ranking points, I would say these reward system shouldn't even exist in the first place.
Game companies are just using system design to waste players' time, so they don't have to release more content to keep players engaged.

We don't know their intent for sure, but AFK farming for literal hours (usually done with an autoclicker) combined with a high score modifier (they don't make as much if they are eliminated in the first round, but again they do it for hours) can get them lots of points which can make them rise in leaderboard and rumble rankings
Basically just getting the rewards and getting "recognized" for doing literally nothing compared to people that actually play

Part of the Sonic Rumble Terms of Service "15. RULES FOR USE OF THE SERVICES" - I'm pretty sure AFK falls into this section, especially if you're using some sort of macro/autoclick(tap) application.
