Being totally realistic now, I feel like we're never getting anything from the cartoons or comics (aside from IDW and Prime of course) and also no Shade because of the whole thing with Penders.

So don't expect Freedom Fighters, Cosmo or anything like that. I'm also not sure if we'll get any classic characters aside from Classic Sonic, because SEGA don't like to mix eras. I'm a little hopeful for Sticks though.

About Super forms, I feel like they could at least become skills, like how they did with Doom Wings Shadow. The most we'll get is Excalibur, Darkspine and maybe the Werehog in the future. But Super Sonic? Not sure.

Also, canon or not, it doesn't matter, because Rumble itself is not canon. So something being "canon" doesn't mean it has a chance to being added.

Chaos sonic and alpha grim sonic on the other hand are entirely separate robots who share no correlation with metal sonic other than the fact that they’re based on the main character’s physical appearance

3.0 is a totally separate robot. And the prime skins (excluding Sonic) are also separate characters, even if they're just alternate dimension versions of the main cast.

Plus, we got other characters who share the same skills and animations, mostly the crossover characters like NiGHTS and Reala or the Altered Beast and Fantasy Zone skins even if they're separate characters.
