#Variable unload speed

Having some issues with clogging, and one of the suggestions has been to do a variable speed unload. If I wanted to slow slow slowly unload the filament (2-5mm/s) just prior to the cut phase, how would I accomplish that? Would it be under the macro? Slicer? If so, could you provide the G-code or how to. thanks <@&1304550334839918672>

are you cutting?

silver cliff
#

yes

#

sorry, let me edit the ask a bit.

#

there is a retract speed there, thats where I would start

silver cliff
#

there is a retract before cut?

junior notch
#

Ive also found that 12 is probably about the most you want to retract on your hotend. probably even less

Yes.

This is in the unload macro?

agile berry
#

No, cut.

silver cliff
#

oh duh, ok

junior notch
#

its all defined under cut in macro_vars.cfg

You're looking for this section. Have you adjusted this before?

i think i have

#

i know i've changed the retract length, but perhaps nothing else

retract and pushback are important relative to each other. typically pushback being a few mm less

agile berry

If youre getting clogs in the cold zone, I would reduce retract some, maybe increase pushback.

#

Does thefilament come out clean after the cut or is the end a little melty/goopy looking?

silver cliff
#

comes out clean

agile berry

I would try reducing retract and pushback by 5 or so and see if it performs better.

#

What extruder/hot end combo are you using?

silver cliff
#

an orbiter

#

and a soon to be released hotend.

junior notch
#

what toolhead?

I have it as well and run 12 without issues so far.

#

but also have an HGX extruder so maybe a little more guts than orbiter

agile berry

I'll just see myself out then, obviously not part of this cool kids club kekw

sorry man

I know how the game works lol

junior notch
#

still going to say it, can't be a tester for everything

silver cliff
#

lol. and also darn it. Just did a bunch of other stuff to the pi and completely forgot to check these settings.

#

now i have to walk a whole 20 feet to flip the switch back on.
