#Printable Extrusions for the Box Turtle

If there is one thing I dislike more than printing TPU, it is cutting extrusions. Here are some printable extrusions (if you have a large enough bed!). The longest extrusion is 360mm. This will just fit 4 wide, diagonally on a 350mm build surface or the long extrusions can be printed one at a time on a 300mm.

With standard Voron print settings, these should be just about .5kg in material.

Given the need for supports on one side for most of the pieces, there are print in place supports that can be snipped out with flush cutters.

In addition to the standard BoM bolts, you will also need 16 x M5x8x7 heatset inserts. Hey, at least you are not having to buy extrusions and now you can print them in any color you like!

There are 3 STLs attached. You will need
4 x 360mm
3 x 220mm
1 x 220mm with AFC Mount.

The last one includes spots for 2 Voron standard m3 heatset inserts to secure the AFC mount.

Finally, it is going to require you to use those flush cutters again to trim some of the protruding tabs from the leftmost and right most trays on the front and back as shown in the final pic. Its not like it is going to be visible. They are simple enough to lop off and I saw no need to modify every one of the tray options.

I believe Robert said there was a little extra wiggle room on the extrusions/trays to allow for deviations when cutting. Since these are printed, it might be possible to reduce that leeway a bit. Also, please print them in a fancy color and show them off if you do!

I'm doing a black and grey build to match my trident so they'll be in grey. I'll post a pic once it's done!

Honestly, I believe the panels and the "extrusions" can be combined but I just haven taken the time to play with them.

Will these work possible as a enclosure ?

In their current form, they couldn't. The enclosure version uses blind joints. If the bottom section panels were merged with the horizontal extrusions though, you would have the space to stagger the bolts going in each direction like they do on chairs.

You are really going to make me order parts for a second one before I am even done the first. LOL I am ordering parts to build a second one to test your idea.

this fits on a 300mm bed just fine

this idea seems really nice for 3 lane turtles

#

should be pretty reasonable to print a 3 lane extrusion width

this finally answer to a question that was rolling in my head about the box turtle, which is "does this really need real extrusions? the answer is obviously no 🙂 Thanks. you think would be possible to split the long ones in 2 pieces to print it on a 250mm bed?

#

i'm not asking you to do that. just if is theoretically possible..
