It seems that many players did not like that the destruction of the building costs 1 iron. Maybe such a solution would be better, what do you think?

I honestly think the costs are forgiving, and its how the cost is displayed in the UI that is done poorly. Another possible alternative though could be that a miner is required to destroy buildings. Not sure how that would play into sentries, it might be better for those to be free to allow more exploration in defenses.

I just joined from RCE's video. I liked the free destruction to experiment and learn new towers, makes being a beginner easier. But I suspect as I learn the game more and get more strategies set that it will matter less. I do think off the top of my head I like the cooldown over the cost of iron. Haven't put a lot of time into the game yet though. Either way, fun game!

The cost of 1 iron is insignificant in the late game, but very impactful during early game. What technologies unlocked at the start heavily impacts on viable defense options for the rest of the game. Having a destruction cost of 1 iron kinda punishes the players in the early game for committing to any sort of defense strategies before unlocking any technologies that pairs well with each other. And due to the faster difficulty spike in harder levels, it greatly amplifies the problem. Either you wait and take some damage, or build defenses first and hope that whatever technology you just unlocked combos well with your defense.

It's only until mine 3-4 where you get enough amount of iron to spare. Perhaps the game can impose the destruction cost on mine 3? It at least allows some early experimentation, while preventing exploits during end game where harder enemies are present.

At the very least make the free turrets free to destroy

If you remove the cost to recycle a building make spot unusable for some period. While the game has a smash and grab focus I don’t think we are supposed to quite literally change layout night and day for focusing the mine or focusing defense. It’s a balancing act.
