What value to use for g?

the question does not specify whether or not to take g as 10. So shouldn't we use 9.8 by default? However, the ans you get would be 3920 which is closer to 3900 (an incorrect option) than 4000 (the given option).

hmmm, in the ques. nothing is given like .....(nearest integer) or round off, so may be u could have tried with g=10 for the exact ans.

doesn't the actual mains paper say "use g=10m/s^2 unless instructed" at the start? or am i thinking about my coaching tests
