bitter bane
a bit of context first:
I got 11293 rank in mains. general category.
i wrote viteee and put mechatronics and automation as my first choice and got a seat allocated in chennai already - if i do decide to go to VIT, I am now stuck with doing this course at chennai.
i also wrote UGEE for IIITH for 5year integrated mtech courses which encourage a research approach. results still havent come yet and even if i get shortlisted i still need to clear an interview. i doubt ill be shortlisted as i dont think i did too well in the SUPR part of the exam, but it has a chance of pulling through.
i wrote manipal and got 174/240. people are saying ill get in. still dont have much clsrity about that either and what course to take if i do go to manipal.
im writing advanced also but dont have much hopes on that. i might try to get into IIST through advanced.
im writing bitsat also but i dont know how that will go. people who get 2k-3k rank in adv are typically the ones who go there to do cse is what i feel.
i am also writing IISERs for fun in june.
in my mind i feel i will enjoy a research oriented education more.

my state of mind:
i feel i am in a mess. you can clearly tell by reading the above section. i had a fair interest towards mechanical, electrical and cse, so i locked in on mechatronics and automation at VIT Chenani. but now i went on linkedin and tried to look at where these graduates are in life today and what jobs they are doing. i was disappointed to see that there werent many people in jobs related to this degree. then i looked at IIITH alumns and saw that every 3rd guy was at google - which felt like they were doing wayyyy more than mechanical and automation grads.
i was also saddened to see that people with b techs in cse and so on are doing jobs like "Talent acquisintion", product managers, and management roles in the end.
what do i do.
