im PRETTY SURE you are able to play with people on citra from azahar using the multiplayer option, how would I go about doing this if there is a way?

It's possible, on both citra and Azahar you need to alter qt-config to point to a valid server, Azahar doesn't do this by default, as such you need to do it yourself
