i want to edit the save file to get trade evolutions, but cant find a "save file" in "open > save file directory"

I guess you mean Pokemon when you mention trade evos.
Have you actually saved in game or are you using Save States?

well thats your save file
you can open it with PokeHex(PKHex) for example

Ok, so looking up the file Size of the main file i can see it's from either Ultra Moon or Ultra Sun being 435KB

It looks like you were trying to load the Save State, not the Save File
